Results round-up
Another quiet weekend on the club front with just two results of note. Unfortunately, our intermediates lost out to a strong Blackrock side. The lads are battling hard and no doubt, they will turn the corner soon.
Our U15s had a great win over neighbours Lisgoold to finish off a great league campaign. The lads finished the league undefeated and now face a rematch with Lisgoold in the league final in June. Best of luck to the boys and here’s hoping they get the result they deserve having had a very strong campaign thus far.
Go Games have now also reached the mid-point of the season. U7, U8, U9, U10 and U11 teams have completed multiple rounds across both football and hurling. U7s have completed 2 rounds, U8s have completed 3 rounds with the U9, U10 and U11 teams having completed 5 rounds thus far.
There will be a break now until the second week in August, but the Summer Leagues will kick-off for the U9 to U11 teams. It goes without saying that the number of games is amazing, so credit to the Go Games planners for the co-ordination of such a massive programme. But credit to the players, parents and coaches too for their dedication, without which the Go Games initiative would not be the success it is, so massive thanks to you all.
ALL-IRELAND F1 IN SCHOOLS
Massive congratulations to our minor player Darragh Casey and his St Colman’s college team-mates who won the recent All-Ireland F1 in schools competition. The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge is a global multi-disciplinary competition, open to all secondary schools on the island of Ireland. It challenges secondary school students to design, build and race miniature compressed air-powered Formula One cars.
Student teams compete against each other in a national championship to determine Ireland’s best engineered car, Ireland’s fastest car, and Ireland’s National Champions. The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, leadership, teamwork, media skills, finance and communication, while applying them in a practical, exciting and competitive way.
TEXT SERVICE RE-LAUNCH
This year we are re-launching our supporters text messaging service as another way to keep members up-to-date with upcoming fixtures.
If you would like a weekly supporter’s message with fixtures for Watergrasshill and Glenville hurling, football, camogie and ladies football matches please contact Paud O’Neill 087-9890964 or Barry Joyce 087-1847017. There is a nominal fee of €5 per year for this service.
We would also appreciate if members could share this service with those who are not on social media as we have found in previous years that this service is very beneficial for them.
LOTTO
There was no winner of the lotto jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 8, 11, 13 and 31. Lucky dip winners are Julia O’Neill, Mary O’Brien, Leanne Loftus and Jess Swayne. Congratulations to you all. Next week’s jackpot is €1,900 and draw will take place Monday, 30th May. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny’s
Shop and our new lotto stand in Ross’s Centra.
Tickets can also be purchased online via our club website. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club lotto.
The club lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.
