Mixed league results

Last Wednesday night week in Ballyhooly, we easily accounted for what appeared to be a weakened Dromina team. A Barry Johnson in the opening 15 seconds set us up for a quick start, and we were 1-7 to 4 up after 15 minutes, with our points coming from Darragh O’Reilly, James Roche, Diarmuid Linehan, Seamus Roche, Dylan Collins and 2 frees from Barry.

Both Dylan and Gearoid Roche added further points from play and Barry added a couple of frees and a 65, before Gearoid hit our second goal on 29 minutes. Throughout the first half different Ballyhooly players were all found guilty of over carrying by the referee and Dromina were also guilty of some poor shooting with 7 wides in the period, 4 of which were from frees. The half-time score read 2-13 to 0-5 and that was against the wind.

A slow start to the second half from Ballyhooly saw Dromina register the first 3 points before Barry pointed a free in the 9th minute. Further points were exchanged before Barry got his second and our third goal after 17 minutes. We added another few points before the full-time whistle, with a Colm Crowley effort being the pick of them. Despite the concession of a soft goal from a free to Dromina we ran out comfortable winners on a score of 3-23 to 1-10.

Team: Brian Lombard, Mark Burdett, Jeff Gowen, John Roche, James Roche (0-2), Eoin Buckley, Seamus Roche (0-1), Darragh O’Reilly (0-1), Diarmuid Linehan (0-2), Fionn Hess, Sean Linehan (0-2), Fergal O’Connell, Gearoid Roche (1-1), Barry Johnson (2-11), and Dylan Collins (0-2). Subs; Eoin Twomey for Darragh (inj 34mins), Colm Crowley (0-1) for Fergal (43mins), Brian O’Driscoll for Gearoid, Fintan Linehan for Fionn, and Eamon O’Reilly for James (all 52 mins).

NARROW DEFEAT

On Sunday morning the trip was made to Liscarroll to play the Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels amalgamation. The home team led 0-12 to 0-8 at half-time after playing against the wind, with 2 of their points coming from sideline cuts. We were first to score in the 2nd half but we then conceded a goal to widen the gap to 6 points. After that goal, Ballyhooly had a good passage of play where we scored the next four points.

The home team then got the next point and their 2nd goal, probably scored against the run of play to leave them 6 points up with 10 minutes to go. We closed out with the last 3 points to leave the final score 2-17 to 0-20. Overall Liscarroll Churchtown were deserving winners and they took their goal chances as the fell, while we probably failed to convert any our half chances. They are a strong team with lots of hurling and we will hope for a better result when we play them in championship on the weekend of the 7th August.

Team: Brian Lombard, Mark Burdett, Jeff Gowen, John Roche, James Roche, Eoin Buckley, Seamus Roche, Darragh O’Reilly, Diarmuid Linehan, Eoin Twomey, Sean Linehan, Fergal O’Connell, Gearoid Roche, Barry Johnson, and Dylan Collins. Subs: Colm Crowley for Eoin, Fintan Linehan for Fergal, Eamon O’Reilly for John and Tommy Barrett for Barry.

SECOND TEAM

Last Friday night our second team made the trip to Charleville and the lack of games and experience proved to be a big factor against a very strong and experienced home team.
