Meeting in Lismore to help shape town's Biodiversity Action Plan
Members of the public are invited to share their ideas on protecting and promoting nature locally in Lismore at a meeting in the town on Saturday, February 18.
Lismore Tidy Towns are preparing to develop a local Biodiversity Action Plan which aims to protect and enhance biodiversity in the town and are welcoming all ideas and comments on the plan.
An open forum will facilitate this via a 'Community Information and Discussion Event' taking place this Saturday from 2pm until 4pm at The Red Hall, Lismore.
News of this follows as Cork Nature Networks is working with Lismore Tidy Towns who have successfully secured funding through Waterford LEADER Partnership CLG to draft the Local Biodiversity Action Plan.
According to a statement shared by Lismore Tidy Towns, the forum will be an opportunity to learn about the aims of the Biodiversity Action Plan and to share views and ideas on important issues surrounding nature and biodiversity in the west Waterford heritage town.
“Many plant and animal species and habitats are declining locally, nationally and globally, and Local Biodiversity Action Plans are designed to help local groups conserve biological diversity in their local areas,” the statement read.
SPRING SURVEY
Cork Nature Network, a non-profit environmental organisation, is carrying out the research and development of the Action Plan for Lismore, on behalf of Lismore Tidy Towns. Public consultation with the local community, local groups and businesses, and all interested stakeholders will be ongoing.
“Experts will map habitat in targeted areas in Lismore this Spring and survey birds, plants and invertebrates. Informed by survey findings and community input, the local Biodiversity Action Plan will provide a list of actions and targets to help conserve and promote nature and wildlife in Lismore.
“Lismore Tidy Towns invite you to bring along any nature-related stories, photographs and ideas that you would like to contribute on the day to help shape the direction of the plan,” the statement added.
