FERMOY FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB REOPENS FOR 2023 SEASON
Following its annual winter hibernation, the club will reopen its 2023 season on Tuesday next, 7th March with a full diary of talks, demonstrations and outings for the year ahead. Talks will include gardening and beauty, demonstrations will be given by returning and new demonstrators and we will visit gardens in Glanmire and Tipperary for our outings.
A huge thanks to our chairperson Anne O’Mahony and her sidekick Sharon Cullinan for the huge amount of work put in to ensure there is something for everyone in this year’s diary of events.
We will start the year by welcoming Kevin Begley of Coolwater Gardens in Co. Tipperary to the club on Tuesday, 7th March in the Adair Hall with doors open at 7.30pm. Kevin will give a talk and slide show titled ‘From lawn to lake’ detailing how he made Coolwater into the beautiful garden it is today. Some members of our club were very privileged to visit Coolwater a few years ago, and still talk with enthusiasm of how they were entranced by its beauty. We welcoming both old members and new at this event.
Members are reminded that the annual club subscription of €30 (no inflation here) is due and non-members and friends are welcome at €10, payable at the door. We look forward to a very enjoyable night in the Adair Hall.
Competitions on the night are as follows: Horticulture A: 3 different daffodils.
Horticulture B: 1 stem spring flowering shrub. We welcome our new competition secretary Maura Galvin, and thank outgoing secretary Margaret Barnes for all her hard work over the last few years.
The sales table will be in the capable hands of Betty Hegarty, (proceeds to the club), refreshments will be served by Eleanor Condon and her team, and the raffle for plants donated by Kevin Begley will be organised by Sheila O’Mahony and Ellen O’Callaghan. We thank them all for their continued support and help in the club.
CHRISTMAS GALA
Following a very successful Gala by Sandra Jackson last November, we are delighted to present €500 to the Alzheimer society of Ireland AOIFA ‘s chosen national charity for 2020-2023. A new charity for 2023-2025 will be chosen at the AOIFA AGM in March. We look forward to contributing to this charity in due course.
CONDOLENCES
The club would like to send condolences to our members Ellen O’Callaghan and Kathleen Lee, on the recent loss of their husbands Sean and Tommy, and to the Tanner family on the passing of their mother and long standing club member, Betty.
