Great spirits all round

-

Our U12 girls have been back training for the last 3 weeks, on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.

On Saturday we played our first football match against Na Piarsaigh in Cork. The weather on the day was smashing and the girls got to play their first football match on the Na Piarsaigh Astro turf pitch which made the match really fast early in the season.

As always this group of girls are full of spirit and fight and straight from the kick off they forced a really fast paced game, a testament to them given how early it is in the season. The girls moved the ball really well through the game, running into space, using the wings really well and supporting each other to keep momentum on the ball. In attack Clodagh, Sarah, Emma, Saoirse, Sophie and Ellie really upped the pace of the game, challenging themselves to take shots on goal and take their points from different angles.

In defence Sadie, Aoibheann, Kate, Lucy, Emma and Cliona wasted no time claiming the ball and running it out of defence supporting each other at pace. Katie and Niamh in midfield linked really well between the backs and forwards to switch play to different sides of the pitch several times and our goalie Grainne stayed strong, controlled the back line really well and made multiple saves.

On the scoreboard today was Niamh, Sarah, Aoibheann, Kate, Lucy, Emma, Katie, Sofie and Cliona. We must give a special mention to Saoirse, Clodagh and Ellie, who played their first match with us today and did a super job.

It’s great to see new girls joining, all are very welcome for football and camogie. Training for football is Sunday mornings at 10.30 in St Colmans and camogie is Thursday evenings at 6pm on the back pitch in the main complex.
