The Avondhu

We’re back!

-

The winter break is finally over and all our teams are now back training. Our older teams have been training hard with a few weeks, with our U6 to U12 teams returning last Saturday morning. It’s fantastic to see such big numbers and enthusiasm with all the regulars back and some new faces also, who are always welcome!

Training for the U6s to U12s continues every Saturday morning at 10.15am in Tallow astroturf pitch at the moment before returning to the pitch in Knockanore later in the month.

New members are always welcome so feel free to come along any Saturday morning at 10.15am!

JUVENILE MEDAL PRESENTATION NIGHT

Our Juvenile Medal Presentation Night will be held in the KGK Hall Knockanore on Sunday, March 19th at 7pm to celebrate the outstanding 2022 season of our U12s, U13s, U15s and U16s.

We will also be presenting medals to our fantastic U6s, U8s and U10s who played in the WLGFA Blitzes last year.

We’re delighted to have six time All-Ireland medal winner and one of ladies football’s greatest ever forwards - Orla Finn - as our special guest on the night. As always, all are welcome!

WATERFORD U16 AND U14 PANELS

Best of luck to Amelie Quann, Caoimhe Whelan, Deirdre Roche and Emma Power who take on Clare in the Munster U16 Championship this Sunday. It’s a huge achievement for our club to have four players represented on the panel. Best wishes also to Katelyn McCarthy who is a member of the Waterford U14 panel as they begin their Munster Championship campaign in the coming weeks.

MINOR/JUNIOR MEDAL PRESENTATION

Our Juniors and Minors celebrated their 2022 County Title successes in some style recently at our Minor/Junior Medal Presentation in Lizzy Langtons! A huge thank you to Niamh Murphy and Grainne Flynn who formed our club in 2006 and were delighted to present the medals to the girls on the night. A special mention also to Tim Keniry and all the staff at Lizzy Langtons for their hospitality and providing such fantastic food, helping to make it such a memorable night. Attention now turns to 2023, which we hope will be another fantastic season for Shamrocks LGFC!

WATERFORD SENIORS

It’s been a rollercoaster few weeks for the Waterford Seniors who have so far enjoyed a solid LIDL Division 1 National League campaign where they sit mid-table after five games having accumulated seven points so far. It could have been a lot better with late points from Kerry denying them a win in their opening game and a point six minutes into injury time from Cork earning a draw a week later.

The highlight so far has been an excellent performance in Letterkenny against Donegal which saw Waterford run out deserving winners. Another small piece of history for Shamrocks LGFA saw that game finish with Waterford winning with three Shamrocks players on the field!

WATERFORD MINORS

It’s been a great start for the Waterford Minor team and management in their Munster Championship as they drew with Limerick in Martinstown in their opening game and then followed it up with a brilliant 3-09 to 2-11 win over Kerry in Castleisland. Special mention to our own Neesha Whelan who has been putting in strong performances for the team from wing back! Next Saturday they take on Cork in round 3 in Killeagh.

LADIES HEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fantastic to see some of our players playing in the Ladies HEC Championships in recent weeks with Catherine Hynes (MICL) Rachel Roche (NUIG), Aobhla Motherway (UL) and Jessica McSweeney (SETU) all involved in some big third level games in the

O’Connor Cup and Giles Cup.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Paddy Smith on his recent appointment to the top level of refereeing in the LGFA. Paddy has been busy refereeing Division 1 and Division 2 games in the LIDL National League in the last few weeks including the Kerry v Dublin Division 1 game in Austin Stack Park, Tralee which was televised Live on TG4.

MOTHERS AND OTHERS TEAM

If anyone would like to join our Mothers and Others team we’d love to see new faces!
