DO YOU TELL ‘FIBS’ ABOUT YOUR SHOPPING HABITS?

-

Almost three quarters of Irish people love telling others where they bagged a bargain however, we aren’t so good at sharing the news with loved ones as almost half admit to telling white lies to their partner about their shopping habits.

New research has found that 72% of Irish adults like telling others where they picked up a great deal, although 47% admit to ‘fibbing’ to their partner about the things they’ve bought. This is in contrast to just 26% of adults across the water in GB who admit to bending the truth with their other half over purchases.

The survey, carried out on behalf of ferry company, Stena Line, reveals that 98% of respondents get a thrill from securing a great bargain, so much so that they love to boast (58%) about it. The poll also found that 67% of Irish people know someone who is a ‘serial bargain hunter’.

In addition, over 27% of us in Ireland admit to exaggerating just how much money we’ve saved, with this figure increasing to 37% amongst men. Almost a fifth (17%) like finding a deal no one else knows about and almost three quarters of people consider themselves to be savvy shoppers.

One place that has always been known to have lower prices is Duty Free shopping. The data revealed that Irish consumers are mostly likely to purchase fragrances in Duty Free shopping (68%), as two thirds would wait until they are travelling to buy a specific product in Duty Free.

The awareness with this was high amongst older demographics but this dropped significantly within the 16 – 24 age range, with over 20% admitting they don’t understand what Duty Free means.
