N73 side roads now need urgent allocations for repair – Sherlock

-

Cork East TD Sean Sherlock has said that he will continue to fight to secure funding for the repair and restoration of side roads used for diversions during the construction of the new N73, which opened last Wednesday week.

“I want to pay tribute to the contractor Sorensen, Cork County Council and the NRA Design office in Glanmire and TII,” Deputy Sherlock said this week. “It's good to see this stretch of the road now has been completed after many years of advocating for this across all parties, it has to be said, and none.

“We want to make sure now that we move on to the next battle, which is about the restoration of the existing road infrastructure that was used for diversions while this road has been constructed. So I've already started working on that. I have done so now for some months, and we continue to work with the design office in Glanmire, asking that monies will be made available for proper restoration of the side roads that were used for diversions while this project was underway," he stated.

RESIDENTS BORE THE BRUNT OF TRAFFIC DURING CONSTRUCTION

The Cork East TD continued by emphasising the burden that has been placed on those who reside on the side roads and roads used for traffic diversion for the project, in general.

“I think it's vitally important that monies are made available for that effort. Because to be fair to residents on all of the side roads that were used. I think they bore the brunt of the heaviest traffic during the period of the construction that deserves to have their roads restored to a proper standard.

"I’m told that work is underway on that, but until we see an allocation of funding for that and until we see the evidence of that work being carried out, we'll continue to fight for it

"We're not forgetting about the side roads, the diversion roads, the minor roads that were left in such a state. We need to continue to work for people who live on these roads, travel these roads on a daily basis to ensure that money is made available for them to be restored as a matter of urgency,” he concluded.
