Fundraising celebrations at Glennon's honour St Patrick
Keeping up a relatively new undertaking, on March 16 the St Patrick’s Day parade and fundraiser got underway at Glennon Brothers just outside Fermoy.
Now in its third year, the parade began during Covid as a way to fundraise and celebrate the national feast day amongst co-workers during a time when social contact was restricted to ‘bubbles’.
Decorated machinery, tractors and loaders were amongst the vehicles taking part in the parade, as well as St Patrick himself, and the company were joined by members of the Thomas Kent Pipe Band who added to the festive atmosphere.
One section of the parade featured a 'flag parade' which saw employees marching with their national flags, representing the variety of nationalities working on-site. Locals and families of employees were also invited to join in on the fun, with a number of children coming to watch and getting involved on the day.
25 YEARS ON
Glennon Brothers are also celebrating 25 years on-site in Fermoy this year, and according to Joint Managing Director, Pat Glennon, there was ‘great spirit’ on the day.
“There’s a great spirit. We have all nationalities here and we’re 25 years on-site here. This was our first expansion from our homeplace and we’re still here 25 years later.
“We’re really happy and proud to be here with such a great team. I’d like to say thank you to our customers all over Ireland and the UK who have kept us here,” he said.
Following the parade, a raffle was held on-site with some big Easter eggs up for grabs, in a bid to raise funds for Fermoy Community Hospital, hosted by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee.
According to the CSR Committee, whatever funds are raised through the event will be matched by Glennon Brothers, before donation. In its first year, the parade was held in aid of Cope Foundation, while last year saw funds raised for the Ukrainian Red Cross.
