Vital win for U17s

-

Fermoy 1 Springfield 0

Fermoy U17s were in action again on Saturday last in a top of the table clash Vs Springfield Ramblers in a clash between the top 2 in the League. Both teams shared the possession and attacks in the first half with the Springfield keeper pulling off one or two brilliant saves to keep it scoreless at the half-time whistle.

The second half saw the tempo rise to boiling point as both teams went in search of a goal with Fermoy’s keeper Bobby pulling off some fantastic saves at his end but then mid-way through the second half in a Fermoy attack it was Leo who found the back of the net to put us 1 goal up.

Springfield kept up their attacks with Fermoy defending hard and the goal posts coming to help on a few occasions but the lads never gave up and Mark was unfortunate not to get Fermoy’s second to polish the game off. Plenty of celebrations came at the end of full-time as Fermoy saw the game out to take the vital win and put themselves in the driving seat in the league final weeks run in. Well done boys, only 3 more for the title!

U14 A Fermoy 2 Midleton 1

Fermoy had a hard fought win against a very strong Midleton side. Fermoy were 2-0 up after 30 mins with two neat finishes from Fionn O’Dwyer. Midleton rallied before half-time and scored to make it 2-1 at half-time. The second half saw Fermoy camped in their own half for large parts of the game. Midleton dominated large parts of the second half but some notable defending from Alex Aherne and Luke Donnellan saw Fermoy gather all 3 points. Fermoy remain 2nd in the table with 5 games remaining.

Fermoy U13 A 2 Corinthian Boys B 0

Fermoy hosted Corinthian Boys B at Carrig Park on Sunday, 12th March. This match was Fermoy’s final match of the league and they needed a win to secure a promotion position.

Corinthians pressed forward from the start, making plays towards the Fermoy defence. Fermoy’s defence dealt comfortably with the attack. Cian C made a great interception and set the ball on the forward attack. Max J, with his phenomenal strength and pace made an excellent surge forward, sent the ball across the box, Jaylany got on the end of the ball and got a shot off, but it went to the left and wide.

Oisin D broke down a charge from Corinthians, that led to Sean O’H linking with Ryan who was unlucky to have the ball go just wide. Corinthians again pressed on resulting in a jumble in the box, Corinthians got a shot at target that was saved by David, another rebound headed toward goal but Cian was there to clear the danger.

Corinthians had a couple of corners but the defence again dealt with the threat with cool heads. Fermoy had another couple of shots on target, increasing their pressure all the time. Connor and Max O’C put in great shifts, ensuring any ball that came their way was sent down the line to create an attack. The first half ended 0-0.

Fermoy upped their game in the second half and looked very dangerous at every passage of play. Everyone was focused and determined. The defence shut down any attempt from Corinthians and the forwards’ link play was right on the money, creating a number of chances. Fermoy won a corner, John Cahill stepped up to take it. He looped the ball into the box, the ball bounced sweetly and boom, into the goal! What a shot, something that would fit very well in any highlight reel in the Premier League. 1-0.

Fermoy had another corner, Jay took the shot, Max J got on the end of ball with a header but it just went left and wide. Fermoy had all the play at this point with every player giving 100%. Corinthians were fighting hard to stay in the game and a couple of tackles went astray, John was awarded a penalty. Max J stepped up to the penalty spot, cool as you like, took a solid shot right down the middle to score a second goal for Fermoy. 2-0! Fermoy kept up the intensity to see out the game.

Team: Sean O’Hagan, Max Jasek, Redmond Crowley, Darragh O’Callaghan, Max O’Connor, Oisin Daly, Ryan McAuliffe, Dallen O’Neill, David Morrisson, Jaylany de Costa, Cian Coughlan, John Cahill, Connor Hill, Daniel Albuquerque, Sean Gowan.

At this point, the team were thrilled with their efforts and delighted to stay in the promotion spot. All we had to do now was wait for the other league games to play out to see where exactly we would end up in the final positions with one team potentially being able to take top spot over us. The wait wasn’t as long as we all expected, as later that afternoon, the results from other games came through, with these results it was clear that Fermoy could not be caught on points and we had secured top position! League winners!

Congratulations to all the boys for their incredible effort over the whole year, time and again you show how dedicated you all are and how much of a team you have become. Not only do these boys give it their all on the field, they give as much energy from the sideline, supporting each other and celebrating every tackle and score.

Of course a huge thank you needs to go to Donald and his wonderful coaching team, Sarah, Pa and Noel. I’m sure I speak for every parent when I say that the time and dedication you show to this group of boys is priceless and very much appreciated by us all.

U14 Fermoy 3 Blarney 2

Fermoy U14s were back in league action on Sunday home to Blarney United. The first half was a bit frantic where chances were at a premium. Steven opened the scoring with a trademark left footed strike and our top scorer doubled the lead soon after running on to a great through ball to finish neatly. Blarney pulled one back with a very tidy team goal just before half-time. The second half was a much more cagey affair before Daniel finished a lovely move low to the bottom corner. Blarney never gave up and got their second from a corner.

Fermoy were under pressure for the last ten, Arran clearing a ball off the line, while Ger hit the post at the other end. Final score 3-2 to Fermoy in a very close fought game.
