U16s first game away to Fermoy

-

Our U16s played their first game of 2023 with a North Division 1 league game away to Fermoy last Sunday. Conditions were heavy underfoot after a wet week and it was a damp afternoon, but everyone was looking forward to getting the season underway regardless.

Glenville got off to a good start, with an early Jack Counihan point opening the scoring and further points from Jack, a smashing goal from David Barry and a brace of points from Shayne Curtin had Glenville leading by 1-06 to 0-03 at half-time.

The team spurned a number of chances in the second half, hitting a few wides, and a number of balls falling short while Fermoy chipped away at the lead until it was a mere two point lead with ten minutes left. However, a later flurry with points from each of our first half scorers led to Glenville running out winners on a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-07.

Fermoy really put it up to us in the second half and while we were very wasteful with the chances we had, there were some really good performance across the squad, with each of the substitutes making a contribution when they came on. There were a few stand out performances, with Jack Counihan playing very well in the full forward line, Luke Doran-Goode putting in a huge shift at wing forward, David Barry excelling in various positions and captain Sean O’Leary doing an excellent job marshalling the defence throughout.

Team and scorers: L Guichard; C McHugh, S O’Leary, A Casey; C Sheehan, B Ryan, E Forde; M O’Riordan, S Curtin (0-03); C Buckley, D Barry (1-01), L DoranGoode; J Counihan (0-05), D O’Neill, E Hartnett; O Whelan, S Callinan, Z Curtin, J Hennebry.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP 2023

Don’t delay, join today. Glenville GAA membership for 2023 can now be paid online through the GAA’s Foireann website at www.Foireann.ie - this is the same website where the health questionnaires were filled out before training and matches last year.

This is the only method chosen by the club this year for payment of membership. This is directly linked to the Player Injury Insurance Scheme, so if you get injured and the system doesn’t have a record of your membership, you won’t be insured.

With most teams back training, it would be great to get membership sorted as soon as possible. We have all types of membership from player, family, juvenile, gym membership, OAP and non-player. Anyone who is seeking gym membership contact Josh Cooke on 0870131 7540 or Paudie Cotter on 086-227 8896 to obtain a fob once you have paid.
