Underage teams play in Glenville

-

On Sunday we travelled to Glenville to play Watergrasshill in an U11 and U12 friendly. It looked like a glorious morning travelling to the match but unfortunately that didn’t last, as we got out of the cars and began to get ready the rain started and didn’t finish for the entirety of the game. In fairness the Glenville pitch is in great condition with plenty of drainage, and it stood up well.

Given the miserable weather conditions the U12 girls got off to a very slow start and after the first quarter we were behind, however it didn’t faze them one bit and after the break they really began to get stuck into the match, all of them working so hard and gradually the ball worked its way up the pitch and we began to get a few scores. That work ethic and resilience continued for the rest of the match and the girls kept popping away at scores, never giving in.

Every girl on the pitch did fantastically well, we had Grainne in goal, Sadie and Aoibhinn in the fullback line, Cliona, Emma and Kate were in the halfback line, Niamh and Katie in midfield, Sarah, Katie B and Lucy in half forward and Sophie and Sadbh in full forward line. Clodagh and Saoirse played really well as well, they completed our U11 team, being key contributors in that game. Aideen volunteered to stand in at goal for a few minutes at the start, thanks a million Aideen.

Our scorers were Niamh, Katie B, Sarah and Sophie. We could have run a crossbar challenge as well today as Katie McG, Niamh and Sophie rattled it a few times! Well done girls, great going in tough conditions against tough opposition.

Our U11 squad played their first game of the season in Glenville where despite the wet and cold conditions put in a great display against a strong Watergrasshill side. One wouldn’t have thought that it’s nearly 6 months since our last game given the way our girls attacked the ball from the throw in.

In defence Aoife, Eve, Lauren, Lucy, Lisa and Cassie put in some very strong displays with some great tackling. In midfield Christine and Ciara put in a huge effort with some great runs up and down the field. Our forwards got some great scores led by Erin, Saoirse, Clodagh, Emily and Daisy.

Well done girls, a great start to the season and looking forward to plenty of games to come.
