-

RED FM SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2 Bishopstown 0-18 Fermoy 04-09

In the Red FM Senior Hurling League Division 2 Fermoy travelled to Bishopstown on Thursday night last, 15th March. The game was played on the new astroturf pitch in very poor weather conditions with constant wind and heavy rain. Fermoy played with the elements in the first half which was to our advantage helping Fermoy to score 3 goals in the first 15 minutes.

David O’Callaghan scoring 2 goals, one in each half, was the key to a Fermoy victory in an entertaining division 2 clash. Three first half goals proved crucial as Fermoy defeated Bishopstown, for Fermoy Jake Carr was accurate from placed balls while Peter Murphy, Shane Aherne and David O’Callaghan were also to the fore. Bishopstown had 3 points on the board before Fermoy scored the first goal, David O’Callaghan did very well to win the ball and give a gorgeous pass to Peter Murphy who finished the ball to the net from close range.

The teams exchanged points until Fermoy raised a second green flag courtesy of David O’Callaghan. The city side scored 2 points within a minute before Fermoy opened up their defence and scored a third goal by James Molloy which left the score after 17 minutes at Fermoy 3-01 Bishopstown 0-06. Fermoy went on to score 0-03 before Bishopstown went on to score 0-04 unanswered points only for Jake Carr to step up and send over a beauty on the stroke of half-time, leaving the score at the break Fermoy 3-05 Bishopstown 0-10.

Fermoy continued to play well into the second half and were ahead 3-07 to 0-12 before getting a fourth goal which was a crucial one from David O’Callaghan, who buried the ball to the back of the net. Both teams exchanged points up to the final whistle and the lads ran out deserving winners. On the night the final score was Fermoy 4-09 Bishopstown 0-18, a 3 point victory for Fermoy. Well done to all involved.
