Sunday sees return of the Munster Junior Cup

-

Following the success of the juniors last Sunday winning junior league section B, there was no action on the playing field over St Patrick’s weekend.

Next Sunday sees the return of the Munster Junior Cup, with Tralee coming to Galbally, kick off 2.30pm. This fixture must produce a result, with extra time and penalties if needed. Tralee finished in mid table of section C of the league, and their victory over Waterpark shows that they mean business.

The U14 boys must travel to Skibbereen for the knockout stages of the Bowl competition. We wish them and the juniors success in their ventures.

GRAND SLAM

After a great turnout from our members on parade day, all were in a hopeful mood heading for the grand slam and triple crown decider, with both the senior and U20 sides in contention.

Many a tricky moment was to be negotiated before the red card was given for a careless challenge which resulted in Hugo Keenan having to have a head injury assessment (HIA). Despite a temporary lapse from the home side, when soft scores were conceded, Ireland ended up as comfortable winners.

The U20 side did not disappoint, and ended up winners of back to back Grand Slams. What an achievement for a team playing scintillating open rugby which was a thrill to behold.

The preparations for the World Cup in France in the autumn now begin in earnest, with Irish players returning to club rugby in the European Cup and URC games.

Tickets are available from the Munster Branch ticket line.

The women’s 6 nations will shortly be under way, with England being hot favourites to retain their crown. We will see how Ireland have come on from the disappointment of not making the world cup final.

Thanks to all players, coaches, parents and officers for giving their time, and especially to Harry Kinsella for his tireless work to keep the pavilion and pitches in great shape. Don’t forget the lotto on Sunday.
