KILSHEELAN 10 MILE

On St Patrick’s Day Willie O'Donoghue headed to Kilshee

lan for their annual 10-mile road race in aid of K-PLAN Community Centre. The popular race takes place around the foothills of Slievenamon, starting and finished in the village of Kilsheelan. On a humid wet morning Willie took to the start line at 10am for the 10-mile hilly encounter. One hour 3 minutes later he crossed the finish line 6th overall and taking a category win by 7 minutes on his nearest category competitor. The Jar League began last Sunday morning on the hills of Claragh. A league of five races with the best four races to score for the runners.

The race began on Claragh Road and headed south for about a kilometre where runners took a sharp left onto a narrow road. After another half kilometre, a right turn took them onto a path which zig-zags up through the forest. Then it was over a stile on their left to exit the forest onto open mountain.

A narrow uphill path took them to the summit. A left at the summit brought them back down to intersect the uphill route and a retrace back to the start for the finish line. We had six take to the start line of this event Mary Louise Ryan who finished 2nd lady, Tom Blackburn finished 4th overall, Kevin Lenihan had a top 10 finish and we had powerful running over the 7k from Robert Cunningham, Dariusz Gazdowicz and Patricia Blackburn.
