109 submissions received on Georgian Quarter
109 submissions were received by Cork County Council on the Georgian Quarter development in Mitchelstown by the time the closing date rolled around last Thursday. Speaking at a local council meeting on Tuesday, Sean O’Callaghan told members that these submissions will now be considered while the Chief Executive prepares his report on the project.
The intention is to meet with the six local councillors at committee level to discuss how the submissions might be ‘managed’ before the final report is brought before the whole council for discussion by July 10th this year at the latest.
Once the Chief Executive’s report is published, all the submissions that were made on the project will be able to be viewed by the public. The scheme is being funded under the 2020 Rural Regeneration and Development Fund
FERMOY TOWN CENTRE & CHRIST CHURCH JUNCTION
Meanwhile, plans for the Fermoy Town Centre Renewal Project, which is being funded under the 2021 Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, are still at an early stage. Internal stakeholders are discussing the project, and once a draft design is agreed, local councillors will be invited to a meeting for their input.
During discussions on this, Cllr Noel McCarthy raised the issue of Christ Church junction which is due to be upgraded as well. However, this is funded separately by the TII and as such is a ‘standalone project’.
Local county engineer Brendan O’Gorman said that these plans would be designed ‘with an eye to the square and bridge plans’, and while there will be a time lag as both projects needed to be assessed with regards to one another, it was agreed that it was essential to ‘get it right’.
