GREAT RESPONSE TO ‘FOGUES FOR FRIENDS’ GIG IN MITCHELSTOWN
It’s full steam ahead for everyone associated with ‘The Fogues’. Comprising the Fogarty cousins from the Mitchelstown area, these lads are managing to combine a hectic life on the road with their regular day jobs. Thanks to a combination of hard work and talent, their profile is increasing all the time, and this in turn, is yielding ever increasing crowds at concerts all over Ireland.
Their focus at the moment is their self styled ‘Turas na Mumhan’ (Munster tour) and despite being very busy, they were still able to accommodate local group ‘Special Friends, Mitchelstown’ last Saturday night - ‘Special Friends, Mitchelstown’ is made up of volunteers who assist those with special needs.
FULL HOUSE IN THE FIRGROVE
Playing ‘at home’, The Fogartys were always liable to attract a good crowd, however, last weekend’s fundraising gig in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown, proved to be a complete sell out.
With regard to the show, it was the tried and trusted ‘Fogues’ mix of trad, ballads, rock and anything else that comes to mind. With a national dance champion on stage - Micheal Fogarty - audiences were also treated to some lightening fast footwork.
GREAT BUZZ
The audience was a cross section from teenagers to pensioners and everyone really enjoyed what was essentially, a home coming. The boys played for several hours so no one could complain about value for money. For their part, The Fogues said it was great to be performing in front of so many familiar faces, they thanked all those who had helped organise the concert, before acknowledging the wonderful work of ‘Special Friends, Mitchelstown’.
A BAND ON THE UP
Founded in 2017, The Fogues debut album was ‘Long Nights In Pokey Places’, which paints an accurate picture of their musical apprenticeship. While embracing social media, the band relies on the strength of live performances to build up their fan base and this has certainly proved a winning formula.
Those who missed out last weekend, can still catch ‘The Fogues’ at the forthcoming ‘Glanfest’. weekend in Glanworth.
