BALLYPOREEN
TIDY TOWNS
As April is National Spring-clean month we will do a litter pick in the village and approach roads on Tuesday, 25th and Thursday 27th. We will meet outside the Community Centre at 7pm for distribution of litter bags and gloves. We have a very limited number of litter pickers available so would appreciate if you could bring along your own. We would be delighted for as many people as possible to attend. For those who are unable to attend we would appreciate if people could do a clean up in the immediate vicinity of your own homes.
BALLYPOREEN AND LIAM LYNCH - A REVOLUTIONARY CONNECTION
This Friday, April 21st at 8.30pm in the Parochial Hall and evening of presentation, film, exhibition, and discussion about the life of General Liam Lynch and his connection with Ballyporeen will be celebrated. Prior and after the event, two timelines will be on display in the hall, one that traces the life of Liam Lynch with photos and short narrative and a second that does similar with the yearly Liam Lynch National Commemoration at Kilcrumper. Ballyporeen parish events and people will feature prominently in both.
The initial part of the evening will be a short presentation by Neil Donovan of the War of Independence and Civil War period concentrating on Ballyporeen’s connection with Liam Lynch. Next will be the well received 40-minute film by John Foley, Dungarvan titled The Dying Days, The Final Journey of General Liam Lynch 1923. This will be followed by a Q&A session comprising, Neil Donovan, Ballyporeen and John Foley, film maker. The evening will conclude with refreshments.
