Blackwater Sub Aqua Club celebrate over 40 years in operation
Reaching a club’s 40 year anniversary is a huge achievement and milestone for any club, but especially for a fully voluntary search and recovery unit like Blackwater Search and Recovery. This is a phenomenal achievement to be marked and celebrated.
The Blackwater Sub Aqua Club recently enjoyed reaching the 40 year milestone, continuously growing and investing in technology and up to the minute dive gear that gives us the edge in the club’s line of work. Looking back we’ve come a long way. The club has gone through many phases of development from when it was initially established in 1981 and as a club it continues to grow and thrive, being driven by those who love the underwater world and who enjoy the friendships that occur in such a vibrant and active club, where all involved share a common interest in encouraging each other to be the best we can be.
The clubhouse is located on Rathealy Road in Fermoy, and the clubhouse building has been developed over the years through local support and the hard work of its members to make it what it is today. Blackwater Sub Aqua Club is made up of people who dive for pleasure as well as a highly trained and skilled search and recovery unit.
Search and recovery is challenging and it’s often carried out in the most difficult water conditions. It is carried out totally on a voluntary basis and members of the Blackwater SAR unit are always amazed at the support shown to us on a continual basis. Being that it’s such a fantastic achievement for the club, it was decided that we’d mark the occasion to acknowledge the time and dedication of all members that brought the club to where we are now. Therefore past and present met up in Fermoy Golf Club and enjoyed the occasion of the celebrations as well as swapping stories and experiences of dives gone by, along with past members mingling and meeting with newer arrivals of the club currently beginning their diving journey.
