More ‘Power’ to St George’s Arts Centre

-

Martin Power and Ceoltoiri Mhuscrai thrilled the audience with an amazing concert on April 13 in Mitchelstown. The concert was on a par with the best performances of traditional music ever.

I have attended many of Martin Power’s concerts. All were excellent. I do believe that Thursday night’s performance in Martin’s home town was the best ever. Martin and Ceoltoiri Mhuscrai presented us with a masterful performance.

Many pieces of music and songs performed on the night were composed by Martin and members of the group. Martin Power’s life-long contribution to the development of musical composition and arrangement influences young musicians on the road to perfection.

Maebh and Cillian O Cathasaigh are awesome musicians. Maebh’s singing is angelic.

Maebh and Cillian did not pick such talent off the ground. Mam, Caroline and Dad Diarmuid, are top class singers, musicians and dancers.

Maebh graciously accepted praise for her performance and Cillian rightly acknowledged the importance of practice.

Joanne Quirke on flute and whistle and Brian O Broin on guitar and song, thrilled the audience. Both are accomplished teachers, composers and performers.

Jerry Aherne’s banjo playing added the distinctive sound universally loved all over the world.

Martin’s genius created a show befitting the excellence of St George’s Arts Centre. Bill Power’s words of thanks to Martin and Ceoltoiri Mhuscrai, on behalf of the audience, were well chosen and emotionally delivered.

Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Baile Mhisteala performed a fitting introduction to a great concert. Tea, coffee and biscuits were graciously served up by Arts Centre members.

Thank you all for a most enjoyable concert. No need to travel from Mitchelstown to concerts, as St. George’s Arts Centre presents us with the best.

Denis P O’Dwyer, Flemingstown, Mitchelstown.
