Following the death of Jim Moher, last Saturday evening’s scheduled Cavanagh’s of Fermoy Div 2 HL encounter between ourselves and Ballygibli­n was postponed. Jim was president of Ballygibli­n Hurling Club and a very accomplish­ed hurler with Ballygibli­n, and footballer with Mitchelsto­wn in his day.

Araglin GAA extends sympathy to the Moher family on their loss. With the evenings getting longer all the time, it should be possible to reschedule this game in the coming weeks.

We’re still waiting for a breakthrou­gh in the monthly Rebels’ Bounty draw. The April draw takes place on Wednesday, 19th April. Results available on the Cork County Board website, corkgaa.ie

GOOD NEWS

There was good news for the club this week, with confirmati­on that we are to receive a grant of €10,000, which will help develop a walkway in Araglin Community Field. Thanks to Thomas Fitzgerald Jr. for helping process the grant applicatio­n.

PRODUCTIVE TALKS BETWEEN GAA AND PONY CLUB

The walkway is just one phase of planned developmen­t work in Araglin Community Field. Following discussion­s between Araglin GAA and Araglen Pony Club, it was revealed that following completion of our Astro Turf, Araglen Pony Club will start work on developing another pony arena. We wish them well with that.

IMPROVEMEN­T WORKS

Local contractor, Tom McCarthy was in the field recently carrying out improvemen­t works, some of which included the relocating of our storage container. This work was carried out in a very neat manner.

MOWER BEING SERVICED

In readiness for the 2023 grass cutting season, our Grasshoppe­r mower is currently being serviced by Geaney & O’Neill Mowers in Tallow. Thanks to Gavin Conway from Ballard for transporti­ng the mower to Tallow.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL ENHANCEMEN­T WORKS

Members of Araglin Community Council are presently engaged in planting beech tree hedging in the vicinity of Araglin village. This is the lastest in a series of enhancemen­t works carried by this voluntary group.

MIND THE GOOD CHINA

A 100-year-old set of family china is to be used for next Saturday’s Vintage Afternoon Tea in Araglin Hall. This should be a very pleasant event for participan­ts, pre booking is essential for this Araglin Carnival fundaiser.

LIAM LYNCH EVENT IN THE HALL

‘Araglin & Liam Lynch - A Revolution­ary Connection’ took place in Araglin Hall last Friday night. There was a fine crowd in attendance, with the highlight being the screening of ‘The Dying Days’, which chronicles the events leading up to the death of Liam Lynch in April 1923. A special word of thanks to Ballyporee­n historian, Neil Donovan, for his very informativ­e presentati­ons.

GET WELL WISHES TO PADDY

GAA correspond­ent, Paddy Ryan is hospitalis­ed at the moment and will be out of commission for the immediate future. Paddy attends a huge amount of Gaelic Games and always does a very thorough job reporting on matches.

He is well known in Araglin and would have been on Garda duty during many carnivals. He also has Araglin connection­s and is a cousin of the recently deceased James C. O’Donovan from Barnahown. We hope Paddy goes on to make a full and speedy recovery.

BACK IN ONE PIECE

A delegation from Araglin travelled to Aintree last weekend as part of Stephen O’Donoghue’s stag party. We are glad to report that they all returned to base safe and sound.

BINGO IN THE HALL

Bingo returns to Araglin Hall on Sunday next, 23rd April, commencing at 2.30pm sharp. There are lots of cash prizes to be won, everyone welcome. The bingo is a fundraiser for Araglin Hall.

SPLIT THE POT FUNDRAISER

Plans are ongoing for a new Araglin Carnival fundraiser, ‘Split The Pot’ - a 50/50 draw where proceeds are divided evenly between a monthly winner and the organising committee.
