PWC Anthony Reidy Memorial 5km Road Race

-

The Anthony Reidy Memorial 5km Road Race, under BHAA rules, was held on Wednesday, 12th April around the Marina Centre Road course, on what turned out to be a not too bad evening. There had been gale force winds and heavy rain all during the day, but thankfully there was a calm period when the race was on and everyone stayed nice and dry, but it was still very cold.

There was a great turnout for this race, with many walkers taking part to honour the memory of Anthony Reidy, who passed away a couple of years ago with cancer, but PWC had requested that donations would be welcome for the Cork Simon Community. There were about 690 runners and walkers in all, which was a fabulous number.

The winner of the men’s race was James McCarthy of Roposkagh Coffee Co, in a fast time of 15.35, with Barry Donovan of PM Group 2nd home in 15.41. The women’s race was won by Lizzie Lea of Apple in 16.56. Avondhu Motor Factors had two competitors taking part, and these were Angela O’Mahony finishing well up in her new O55 category in 28.56 (happy birthday Angela), and Tony Dunne finishing 1st in the men’s O80 category. So well done to these two.

PWC put on a fabulous spread of food after the race which was warmly welcomed as most people were freezing! Many thanks as usual to the BHAA committee, and to PWC for sponsoring the race, and thanks to all helpers on the night. It has made it so much easier and quicker to get everyone’s times as we now have chipped timing in all the BHAA races. Thanks as always to Mike Ennis of Avondhu Motor Factors for sponsoring our team again this year.

UPCOMING RACE

The Pfizer 6-Mile Race will be held in Ringaskiddy on Wednesday, 10th May commencing 8pm sharp. This is not a particularly easy course, but everyone is welcome to give it a go.
