SENIORS WIN AT HOME
On Sunday last in the Red FM sponsored Division 2 Hurling League, Bride Rovers secured their 3rd win of the campaign with a 9 point win over Mallow. After all the rain of the previous week, the pitch was in pristine condition for the game. A fine crowd was in attendance for the game and while there was ‘ Oskars’ business going on outside the fence with a trailer of timber to be won, inside the fence our seniors were putting Mallow to the sword.
The opening exchanges were physical and tough with both teams doing their best to get a grip on the game, Adam Walsh was unerring from frees in the opening half, notching up 6 points, 5 from placed balls. Two points from the impressive Ronan O’Connell and another from Jason Pratt ensured the Rovers led at halftime by 0-09 to 0-06.
Into the second half, the Rovers pressed on, an Adam Walsh free followed by a well taken goal by Ronan O’Connell extended the Rovers’ lead. A further brace of points from Ronan had the Rovers in front by 11 points at the 45 minute mark. Mallow replied with some pointed frees but 4 points for the Rovers without reply from Jason Pratt, Adam Walsh (2) and Louie Roche wrapped up the victory for the Rovers on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-11.

U11 LOCAL DERBY
The U11s hosted St Catherines last Saturday in football and hurling games. The Ballynoe/Conna side was made up of U10s and 11s and gave a good test to our boys. Our lads, despite being not at their best, still produced enough to get through their games with control but St Catherines are ones to watch for the future. It’s been a while since our lads have been tested like this weekend and tough games like this will only bring them on. We have Mallow visiting us in hurling next Sunday morning before a week off for the Bank Holiday weekend. We then have two weekends in a row where we welcome Douglas to Páirc na Bride. Hurling training as usual on Wednesday night in Pynes at 6pm.
ANOTHER WINNER FOR DAVID BARRY
After training a winner for Pat Cullotty at the Point to Point in Quakerstown, Co Clare recently David Barry of Mondaniel was in the winners’ enclosure again last Sunday. Flemens Interest owned by another great local sportsman Johnny Joe Cotter won a great race in Dromahane.
U13S PLAY ‘SCARRA
Our U13s were at home to Inniscarra on Saturday in Páirc na Bride. It being holiday times and with families away we were down to just 15 players. The effort those 15 boys put in over the next hour was something else and also the three U12 boys Jack, Cathal and Padraig who stepped up to help. We got off to a good start, leading by 1-2 to a point after 15 mins. Inniscarra came into the game up to half-time and the score was 2-5 to 0-6 at the break.
Inniscarra started the second half as they finished the first and got two quick goals. But this kicked-started our boys back into action. A goal got us ahead and Inniscarra got back level. We went a point up with 2 mins left and defended that lead with serious work rate.

Carrig started well and got the first 2 points before Cormac got our opening point. Carrig got two more before Adam put over 2 frees and Conor got a point to leave the sides level 4 points apiece after 10 minutes
Carrig got the next point, Conor looked like he was after getting the opening goal of the game but the shot came back off the post and Carrig came down the other end to get a goal of their own to leave them leading 1-5 to 4. We got 5 of the next 6 points (Jordan, Cormac and Conor (3)) leaving the sides level 1-6 to 9 points after 25 minutes. Carrig got the next two points before a free by Adam left the score 1-8 to 10 at half-time. Carrig started the second half better and got 3 of the first 4 points with Conor getting our point from a free. We got the next 3 points to bring the teams level again. The teams shared the next 4 points before Carrig got through for their second goal with 8 minutes left.
Our lads battled back again and got back to within a single score after two points Conor and Cormac. Carrig finished the better though and got the last two points to win on a scoreline of 2-16 to 19 points.

BRIDE ROVERS V ST FINBARR’S IN U12
Thursday night saw the U12 C3 team welcome the Barrs to our juvenile pitch for what was the lads’ first competitive game. Our lads showed their determination and skill and got a deserved win. There was no first game nerves as the lads pulled on the green, white and gold jersey for the first game.
From the first ball Rovers were committed to winning and displayed some lovely stickwork. Our U12s were supported by some U11 players.

BRIDE ROVERS V MALLOW TWENTY YEARS AGO
Memories of our 2003 Intermediate Championship win over Mallow were recalled last Sunday. Played in Ballyhooly that game set us on our way to winning the County Intermediate title that year. The score of the contest that evening two decades ago was a super goal from Brian Murphy after a mighty run.

Our U10 boys hosted Kiltha Óg on Saturday on the juvenile pitch which was remarkably in incredible condition after all the recent rain. Great credit due to Denis Ahearn and his team. In total we had 4 cracking matches and the standard of football was very high considering it was just each team’s second football match of the year.

HEFFERNANS SPREAD AROUND
Last Sunday we played Mallow in the SHL before a huge crowd in Páirc na Bride. On the Mallow team was Fionn Heffernan, son of Pat who trained us a few years back and remains a great friend of so many in Bride Rovers. Pat Heffernan himself was not in Rathcormac Sunday but far away in Markiewicz Park in Sligo watching his other son Daithi playing. Daithi Heffernan is working in London at present and playing with Brother Pearse’s in the English capital and lines out with London in the Christy Ring Cup.
A team mate of Daithi’s on that London team is Bandon native Ronan Crowley - son of Padraig and first cousin of our mentor Noel Crowley! On Sunday Sligo beat London 2 20 to 1 20 - London had twice beaten Sligo in this year’s National Hurling League. London have home games in the Christy Ring Cup in Ruislip v Meath and Derry and must travel to play Mayo and Tyrone.
REBEL ROVERS
Between Cork underage sides, U20 and Senior Hurling, and U16 and 18 and Senior ladies football, ten Bride Rovers players are currently involved with Cork teams preparing for major games. We wish them all the very best. It’s only April yet the Munster Senior Hurling Championship is starting this weekend as 4-in-arow seeking Limerick take on Davy Fitz’s Waterford in Thurles at 2pm.
Two hours later up the road in Ennis Tipp meet Clare. Cork have two home games to start with. On Sunday week Waterford are visitors and the following Saturday night - the night before Bartlemy Races - Tipp will come to Cork for an evening game.
EXECUTIVE MEETING
Monday night’s monthly Executive Meeting had a full agenda. Reports on games played, fixtures, ladies, juvenile, finance, playing pitches, child protection, IT and the Oskars dominated. Evelyn Murphy from the Oskars Sub Committee reported from the launch and the casting Night - both great occasions. She said the 7 films were in rehearsal with two weekends of filming scheduled for the last weekend of April and first weekend in May. She said the fundraising events were being well supported, both inside and outside the parish. She thanked all those making such an effort. Chairman Pa O’Driscoll commented that between actors, directors, extras and fundraisers close on 170 people are involved in the Night At The Oskars campaign and said the excitement around the parish was mighty.
U7 FOOTBALL
Our U7s travelled to Mallow last Saturday morning for a Rebel Óg Go Games football blitz. Great skill on show from our lads. They really enjoyed the games and were very impressive. The boys were great in every match played. Next up St Catherines visit us for a hurling blitz on Saturday, 29th April.
BRAVE HEART - GOOD GUESS
The Braveheart Film Crew had an unusual fundraiser running at the SHL game on Sunday last before a huge crowd. Braveheart Filming Group were selling lines to win the trailer of dried and split firewood. With coal, turf, gas, nuclear power and paraffin all getting scarce a trailer load of timber is worth a small fortune. All one has to do is guess the actual number of pieces of wood in the trailer. Could it be 300, 600 or 850 or perhaps 1110 ? Your guess is as good as anyone else. The Braveheart Crew say ‘Thanks for your support and we will be at Bride Rovers Pitch again next Saturday morning, April 22nd’.
PYNES FIELD DEVELOPMENT
At Monday night’s Executive meeting chairman Pa O’Driscoll gave an update. The old boundary fence has been removed, boring for water is taking place this week. The plan is that the contractors will be moving in to start on the first new pitch in mid-May. The development will take approximately three years in total - depending on finance of course.

BARTLEMY SCHOOL RUN
A 6km event - run/jog/walk, in aid of Bartlemy School, will take place on next Sunday, April 23rd at 12pm from Bartlemy Hall (registration from 10.30am. €15 per entry or €20 per family). Lots of prizes and post-race refreshments in the hall afterwards. All welcome. All funds raised go towards facilities and ongoing development in the school.
