ADULT LEAGUE ROUND 3

Our Juniors travelled to Aglish last Sunday morning in round 3 of the Adult League and played out an entertaining game against the hosts St Olivers. It was St Olivers who made the better start which was reflected on the score board as they accounted for the first four points of the game. The opening Shamrock’s score was a brilliantly worked goal which was dispatched to the net by Niamh Spillane.

St Olivers replied with a goal before Shamrocks reduced the deficit with points from Kate Sheehan, Rebecca McSweeney and Niamh Spillane. St Olivers were just able to keep ahead before both teams exchanged goals, with the Shamrocks effort coming from Caoimhe Whelan. In the end St Olivers did enough to claim the points with the final score: St Olivers 2-06 Shamrocks 2-03. Next Sunday we host Comeragh Rangers in round 4.

U16 CHAMPIONSHIP

Our U16s have made a strong start to their championship which began with a home win over Stradbally on a scoreline of Shamrocks 5-05 Stradbally 1-04 which was then followed up with a great performance to beat Erins Own in Williamstown. This week the U16s travel to play neighbours Ballysaggart before playing Gaultier in our final group game before the knockout stages next month.

U14 CHAMPIONSHIP

The U14 Championship is due to kick off on Wednesday, April 26th with a home game against Comeragh Rangers in round 1. Our division also includes Ballysaggart, Ballyduff Upper, Stradbally and Erins Own with the knockout stages due to be played in June.

WATERFORD U16S

It was disappointment for both Waterford U16 teams as they lost their Munster finals last weekend. Last Friday evening the Waterford U16A team played out an entertaining game against Kerry in Mallow GAA Complex before eventually going down by 2-15 to 3-07.

Last Saturday the Waterford U16B team lost out to Clare by a single point in a tense game which was also played in Mallow, to finish their season. Unfortunately the results didn’t go the way of the Waterford teams in the finals but we are extremely proud to have had four Shamrocks girls representing Waterford with distinction in the games over the last number of weeks. Well done to Caoimhe Whelan, Amelie Quann, Deirdre Roche and Emma Power, it’s a huge achievement for our club to have four players on the Waterford U16 panels.

GAELIC 4 MOTHERS AND OTHERS BLITZ

Despite the poor weather beforehand our G4M&O team made a welcome return to the pitch when they took part in the Comeragh Rangers G4M&O Blitz held in Rathgormack recently. With games against Kilmacthomas, Mount Sion, Comeragh Rangers and St Annes everyone had a fantastic day! Training continues under the guidance of Martin O’Keeffe and if anyone would like to come along and enjoy some social football with no previous experience the team is always welcoming of new recruit!

WATERFORD MINORS

Best of Luck to the Waterford Minors who play Limerick in their Munster final next weekend. Special mention to Shamrocks player Neesha Whelan who has been putting in great performances for the Minors from wingback in their games to date!

U11 DEVELOPMENT BLITZ

Round 2 of the new U11 Development Blitzes took place on Easter Monday with Shamrocks hosting Abbeyside and Kilrossanty/Brickies in Knockanore. Similar to the first blitz played last month, the weather wasn’t kind on this occasion neither, with a gale force wind blowing across the pitch and a torrential shower near the end making playing conditions difficult. It didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm though as the Shamrocks’ girls played out two closely fought games against Abbeyside and Kilrossanty/Brickies.

A special mention needs to go to our young referees Bronagh Motherway and Kate-Lynn O’Neill who did a fantastic job in ensuring that everything ran smoothly and on schedule!
