Fermoy Camera Club Coastal Challenge

-

Fermoy Camera Club consists of a group of photography enthusiasts who come together to share their knowledge and passion for photography. The club holds regular meetings where members can discuss photography techniques, share their work, and learn from each other. Fermoy Camera Club also organises outings and events to give members the opportunity to practice their photography skills and explore different locations.

The last event that the camera club organised was a Coastal Challenge, where members were given a theme related to the coast and tasked with taking photographs that captured the theme. This is a fun and creative way for members to challenge themselves and showcase their skills.

To help with this the camera club organised an outing to Ardmore. This outing provided members with the opportunity to explore new locations and take photographs in different settings. Members also had the opportunity to learn from each other and share tips and techniques for capturing the best shots.

Following on from this outing the club had their monthly meeting where members had the opportunity to bring in their printed coastal photographs. These were displayed anonymously so members had the opportunity to study and admire them before casting their votes for their favourites. While photos from Ardmore featured prominently, there were also photographs from Westport to West Wales with various locations in between. The diversity of photographs was a testament to the creativity and the different way each of us see and interpret the world.

Before the results of the vote being was announced, members sat around to discuss the photos which is a great way to for members to learn from each other in a constructive and friendly setting. The results of the voting were then revealed with Helen Arnold taking third, George O’Keefe in second place and Deirdre Casolani taking first place. Deirdre’s image of a set of lobster pots on the quayside was a great example of seeing something beautiful in an everyday object, which most would pass by without a second glance and in so doing, she encapsulated the club motto of having ‘Fun with Photography’.

The theme for April is Urban and the meeting to judge these photos will be held on Wednesday, April 26th in Fermoy Community Youth Centre.

Overall, Fermoy Camera Club is a great way for photography enthusiasts to connect with like-minded individuals, improve their skills, and explore new locations and techniques.
