‘Plants, People, Places’ art exhibition in Mallow

- KATIE GLAVIN

Killavullen's Anita Geaney is set to stage an art exhibition at Mallow Library, which will run from May 11 until May 23.

Originally from London, Anita has been living in Killavullen since 1999 with her family and has been widely involved in the community in her capacity as a professional artist.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Plants, People, Places’ features a collection of paintings and prints, made over the last three years and are in part a direct response to the lockdowns during the pandemic.

Finding solace in her garden, walks through the woods and along country lanes, sea swimming when restrictions on movement were lifted, and looking at old photos of events that gathered friends together, were all sources. of inspiration.

Anita’s works have a sense of joy that is expressed through vibrant colours and loose gestural marks.

The Killavullen local has been a member of Cork Printmakers since 2017 and will be displaying work made using a variety of techniques including stone, lithography, silkscreen and etching alongside her paintings.

Locally, Anita used to run art classes for Cuisle Avondhu at Nano Nagle Centre for many years and has painted murals at the local primary school in Killavullen.

Her work has also been featured on local stages as she designed and painted scenery for the Panto at Fermoy Community Youth Centre in the past.

Anita’s art has been exhibited previously in London and was selected in group shows at the Lavit Gallery and the Print Gallery at the Nano Nagle Place in Cork City, at the Working Artists Studio in Ballydehob, The Secret Garden Gallery in Thomastown Kilkenny and currently at the Spring Show at the Beframed Gallery in Douglas in Cork City.

‘Plants, People, Places’ will open at Mallow Library on Thursday, May 11 from 3.30 until 5pm.
