Glanmire man nominated for IFTA 'Lead Actor' award

Glanmire native, Éanna Hardwicke is among the nominees for the upcoming Irish Film and Television Awards.

Taking place on Sunday, May 7, Mr Hardwicke has been nominated for an award as Lead Actor in the film ‘Lakelands’, alongside some of the biggest Irish names in acting such as Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson.

Éanna is also amongst the starring cast of 'Lamb', the 2022 short film nominated under the IFTA Live-Action Short Film category. Hailing from Glanmire, he was educated at Cork School Project (Educate Together) at Ashton School in Cork City and attained a BA in Acting at The Lir Academy in Dublin. At age 12, Éanna made his on-screen debut in ‘ The Eclipse’ (2009).

‘Lakelands’, which tells the story of a footballer who gets attacked on a night out, has been nominated for awards under a host of categories in this year’s awards.

Directed and written by Robert Higgins and Patrick McGivney, ‘Lakelands’ has also been nominated for Best Film, while Danielle Galligan has been nominated for Lead Actress in Film for her role in the movie and music producer Daithí (O'Dronai) has been nominated for original music in ‘Lakelands’.

The Glanmire man has also picked up an award last year at the Galway Film Fleadh for his role in ‘Lakelands’ under the ‘Bringham Ray New Talent Award’.

Having come to national attention for his appearance as Rob in the 2020 production of ‘Normal People’, Éanna has gone from strength to strength, appearing as ‘Sebastian’ in the Netflix season 2 production of ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ and as Joe Ryan in the hugely popular series ‘Smother’.

The 20th Anniversar­y IFTA Awards Ceremony takes place on Sunday, May 7 in Dublin. RTÉ will broadcast the ceremony, and highlights from the IFTA Red Carpet, the awards ceremony and back stage will also be distribute­d to over 120 news channels worldwide.
