Get your Spring Covid-19 booster

-

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare is calling on all those eligible for a Spring Covid-19 booster vaccine to make an appointment for their nearest clinic.

The ' Spring Booster' is for people aged 70 years and older, residents of long-term care facilities for older adults and people aged 5 years and older with a weak immune system. Those eligible must wait at least three months since their previous vaccine, or since they have had a Covid-19 infection, before getting the booster.

Over the coming weeks, residents of longterm care facilities for older adults will be vaccinated by HSE mobile teams. Children under 12 years with a weak immune system will be catered for at Covid-19 Vaccination Centres.

Dr Michael Hanrahan, Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine for Cork and Kerry says: “We encourage everyone who is eligible to get their Spring Covid-19 booster this May, to come along. This booster will help keep you protected against serious illness due to Covid-19.

“It’s important to remember that people’s immunity weakens over time, especially in older people and those with a weak immune system. Boosting your immunity now can help ensure that you continue to be protected before your next booster is due in autumn, along with your flu vaccine.

“Covid-19 is still circulating in our community and vaccines offer additional protection to fight the virus. The vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective, so don't hesitate, take action now and get your Spring Covid-19 booster. Together, we can protect ourselves and our communities against Covid19,” he said.

All scheduled clinics continue to offer primary and booster vaccines for all ages also. If anyone is unsure of their vaccine status, you can check by contacting HSELive on 1800 700 700.

The North Main Street Vaccination Centre, North Main Street, Cork City, T12 A6WX is open on this Thursday, 4th May: 8am-4pm for children aged 12 and over; Friday, 5th May: 8am-2pm (12+) and Saturday, 6th May: 9am-11am (5-11) and 11.30am-2pm (6 months – 4 years).
