Pride in Our Community competition launches

Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire is very pleased to announce that the Pride in Our Community 2023 competition will take place this year.

A competition open to all community and voluntary groups in Cork City and county, it is sponsored by Cork County Council and Cork City Council.

Speaking at this year’s launch, Mayor of the County of Cork, Councillor Danny Collins said that Cork County Council was “a proud supporter of this wonderful competition which recognises groups who develop local amenities and projects which are of longterm benefit to the community”.

“This is a very important year for the competition now that communities are getting back on their feet following the impact of the pandemic. I encourage community and voluntary groups from Cork County to enter the Pride in Our Community competition in this year and would like to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to the countless community groups that work tirelessly in making Cork County such a great place for all,” he said.

Mr. Sean Holland of Muintir na Tire, thanked Cork County Council for their long association with the competition since 2005. He went on to welcome on board Cork City Council again for 2023. He said groups could enter if they have developed or are in the process of improving amenities in their local community.

Sean went on to give examples of the types of projects previously entered. Community walks and trails, playgrounds, community fields, community centre renovations, upgrades to monuments and amenity areas, river clean-ups, community signs, murals, biodiversity areas, community gardens, allotments, graveyard restoration, floral displays on streetscape, all weather facilities, tree planting, floral bedding, etc. He said the list is endless and community groups should feel free to enter new and innovative projects.
