Gardaí have confirmed to TheAvondhu that ‘ No fresh appeal’ has been launched regarding the disappearance of Conor and Sheila Dwyer, however, investigations into the case, some 32 years on, continue.

Conor and Sheila Dwyer went missing from their home at Chapel Hill, Fermoy in 1991 and were both aged in their 60s at the time.

“No fresh appeal has been launched. However, Gardaí in Fermoy continue to investigate the disappearance of Conor and Sheila Dwyer, who are missing since April 30, 1991,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“Anyone who has any information into their disappearance is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station”.

Missing Persons Helpline Ireland also reissued their online appeal on the anniversary of the couple’s mystery disappearance.

“They were last seen at St. Patrick’s Church in Fermoy on 30th April, 1991. Some days later Gardai were notified that the couple were missing. The Gardai went to the Dwyer home and found the house secure and all personal items such as clothes, passports and money still in the house. However their car, a white Toyota Cressida registration number 5797 ZT was not at the house and has not been located to date,” the appeal read.

Reports since Conor and Sheila’s disappearance note that ‘exhaustive searches’ of the Blackwater River and surrounding countryside were carried out.

Interpol was alerted and ferry records for the relevant time period were also checked.

A number of possible sightings have also been reported, including one in 1993 which claimed that the couple were spotted in Munich, which was of interest to Gardaí as Conor Dwyer had worked for German businessman Fritz Wolff of Castlelyons House.

Following the disappearance, searches were carried out and several appeals have been launched over the years but the case of Conor and Sheila Dwyer remains open. Anyone who may have information regarding their disappearance is asked to contact Gardaí.
