BARTLEMY CONFIRMATION GOOD LUCK LIAM

-

RACES ON SUNDAY

Next Sunday is the ‘Red Letter’ day in the sporting almanac of Bartlemy people far and wide. The annual point-to-point race meeting will be held at Hightown, with the 6 race card commencing at 2pm. The Bartlemy course is regarded as one of the very best on the Cork/Waterford circuit with a great track and superb viewing. With just a few exceptions, Bartlemy Races have been held for nigh on 130 years. It promises great racing and a great day out for all the family. Next Sunday’s meeting will be tinged with sadness because one of the Bartlemy racing fraternity’s stalwarts, Denis Barry, died last December. The Barry family name has long been associated with Bartlemy Races and the Denis Barry Cup in memory of Denis Barry’s father - also named Denis - has been presented for many years. Denis will be fondly remembered by all who travel to Hightown on Sunday next.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

Places for assisted pilgrims are still available on the Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes from June 2nd to 7th. For information on how to get application forms just ring 087 9538077. Financial assistance is available from the Fermoy & District Lourdes Invalid Fund.

JOIN BARTLEMY WOOLIES

The Bartlemy Woolies are back. For anyone interested in doing some knitting, having a chat and a cuppa in a warm friendly atmosphere, Bartlemy Hall on a Tuesday morning is the place to be. The group meet on Tuesday mornings at 9.30 and the finishing time is variable, usually about 11 or 11.30. If you are a committed knitter or never did a ‘one plain, one purl stitch’ do come along any Tuesday. For further details contact Una at 0868422634.

LIGHTS, CAMERAS, ACTION

It was like Hollywood in Bartlemy last Sunday as different scenes were filmed for the ‘Fr Ted-Speed’ mini film - one of 7 being ‘shot’ by the Bride Rovers GAA Club members as part of a huge fundraiser – ‘The Night At The Oskars’ on May 26th. It will be the same next Saturday and Sunday as scenes from The Field, Michael Collins and Bridesmaids will be recorded; all go and the whole Oskars is creating a huge buzz around the parish.

COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT

At present there are three vacant positions on Community Employment in the Bartlemy/Rathcormac area. Ring 087 9538077 for details.

BREAKFAST CLUB & AFTER SCHOOL CARE

An exciting new venture will be up and running in September to help families and children who attend Bishop O’Brien NS in Bartlemy village. With many parents working and travelling to work, the introduction of a Bartlemy Breakfast Club and After School Care facility is a wonderful development. Fun activities will be included plus a light breakfast and afternoon snack. Bookings are now being taken, contact Caitriona at 087 1260020.

The Bishop of Cloyne William Crean will be in Bartlemy on next Tuesday, May 9th to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation on pupils from Bishop O’Brien National School. We hope the young boys and girls have memorable day.

Best wishes to Liam Carr from Desert, Bartlemy who is on the Cork Primary Game team that plays Tipperary at halftime in the Munster SHC game in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday night next.
