JUNIORS WIN

-

On Friday evening, 28th April, our juniors travelled to Dungourney to play the locals in Round 4 of the Junior League.

We dominated this game from the outset, racing into a commanding lead at half time of 4-6 to 0-1. It was a much more even contest in the second half, with us winning the game on a score of 4-8 to 0-3.

Our final group stage league game is at home to Buttevant on Friday, 5th May. Inviting local support to come out on Friday evening to show support for the Junior Camogie team. If we can manage a win on Friday we will qualify for a County League semi-final, which would be another huge achievement for the our club.

U16 CAMOGIE

With hints of summer time, in glorious sunshine, our Under 16 team welcomed West Cork Team Laochra Óg on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. This was a great physical display from the girls. Every player put in a lot of hard work all over the field had the girls took the lead from the start. Our goalkeeper today, Ellen Horgan, helped in a great way to contain the visitors scoreline. This included a number of saves from Ellen from play and also a super save of a penalty shot.

All the backs were working hard and great defending and pressure kept on from Erin, Eimear and Shayna. Super running and skill from Shauna O’Driscoll and Rebecca. Great passing and team work resulted in some lovely scores from Shauna Lane, Naoise, Orlaith, Clodagh, Siún, Leitisha and Rebecca. Tara, Siún and Naoise all battling hard along with Cara, Jane and Lucy. Some great passes into Orlaith and Niamh.

All subs introduced made a great impact on the game. Emma, Jane, Lucy, Taylor, Leah Casey, Sophia and Hannah all contributing to a well deserved win with a final score of Kilworth 3-14 to Laochra Óg 3-6.

U12 CAMOGIE

On Monday, 1st May our U12 played their 2nd league match against Na Piarsaigh. After suffering a defeat last week our girls regrouped in training and with encouraging words from their mentors approached Monday’s game with determination. Their hard work paid off within the first minute of the game when Katie Beecher scored her first of three points of the game.

Team work was very evident throughout the first half, with many chances on goal. Other points in the first half came from Brianna O’Flynn. In the last few minutes of the first half Ruth O’Flynn had to come off due to injury. At half time Kilworth led by one point.

Once again in the second half five minutes in Katie showed determination with a long strike putting the ball over the bar and finally after many chances on goal the work rate between Rachel and Brianna finally paid off with a goal. Kilworth after that led with several other points coming from Brianna. The final score was Kilworth 1-7 Na Piarsaigh 1-5. As a team each player had an input this win and we wish Ruth a speedy recovery.

CORK U14 DEVELOPMENT SQUAD SELECTION

Congratulations to U14 players Casey Lane and Lucy Beecher who

have been selected to play with Cork U14 Development squads this year. This programme is ran until early September with the girls training weekly with the county panels and taking part in national blitzs around the country and also the honour of parading the hallowed pitch of Croke Park at half time in the All Ireland Camogie final with the other counties.

We wish Casey and Lucy the best of luck for the coming season. As a club we have had fantastic talent take part in the Avondhu development hubs and Cork County hubs. The work rate and characteristics of our players has been commented on frequently so well done to all the girls who continue to represent our club with honour all the time.
