LADIES TUESDAY 12 HOLE CHAMPAGNE SCRAMBLE

It was exciting to welcome back many of the regular Tuesday ladies this week after a harsh winter and some unwelcome injuries. As ever, the scramble was well organised by Margaret Costello who rocks up with lovely prize bags and a warm smile.

The winning team of Kathleen Noonan, Betty Buttimer and Eleanor Cummins brought in 57pts and were delighted to be back enjoying golf and meeting their fellow golfers again.

The Tuesday morning ladies have a big date coming up. On Tuesday, 16th May, they will play for the Nancy Doyle Trophy in a 12 Hole Singles Stableford competitio­n. Note the date!

LADIES OPEN DAY

The Open 3-Ball Champagne Scramble was very kindly and generously sponsored by O’Donnell’s Garage, Woodview Service Station, Cahir on Thursday, 27th April. The Open Day was very well supported, and a bonus was the excellent weather on the day. The winning team was from Slievenamo­n GC: Una Creed (38), Paula Spillane (18), Geraldine Bartley (27) and they shot an amazing 104 pts.

One point separated the second and third teams. Second team, Cahir Park Ladies: Mary Kenrick (20), Eleanor Carroll (19), Mary Comerford (28) scored 94pts. Third team, Cahir Park Ladies: Julie Connolly (16), Breda Keating (18), Caroline Maher (17) had 93pts.

UPCOMING LADIES COMPETITIO­NS

The long awaited and much anticipate­d ladies Bramleigh Lodge Nursing Home Summer Series commences this week. The competitio­n, this week, will be 18 Hole Stroke Medal. Played on Thursday, 4th May and Saturday/Sunday 6th/7th May, there is no re-entry. Sincere thanks to Bramleigh Lodge Nursing Home, Cahir, for sponsoring the Summer Series.

INTERCLUB COMPETITIO­NS

Hard luck befell the Ladies Minor Team who played Youghal Golf Club Ladies last Tuesday and great success was achieved by the Cahir Park ladies who won the Intermedia­te match against Clonmel GC ladies.

Best wishes to the Youghal ladies in the next round of the Minor Cup competitio­n and many thanks to the Clonmel and Youghal ladies for the great, hard fought and very sporting matches. Thank you to all the Cahir Park Ladies who represente­d the club on both the Minor and Intermedia­te teams and to the managers, Miriam Halley and Deirdre O’Neill, Minor team and Cathy O’Gorman and Ann O’Brien, Intermedia­te team.

MARY MCKENNA DIAMOND TROPHY COMPETITIO­N

Cahir Park Ladies played the first part of the Home and Away first round of the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Competitio­n in Ballyneety Golf Club on Saturday, 29th April. Playing a very strong Ballyneety ladies team in Scotch Foursomes Matchplay, Cahir Park returned home two games up and now prepare for the second leg of the first round at home on Friday, 19th May.

All the matches were extremely exciting, and all were decided on the 18th hole. An afternoon of brilliant golf was rounded off by a very warm and welcoming reception for both teams, managers and supporters in the Ballyneety Clubhouse. Congratula­tions to team managers Ger Lyons and Margaret Costello and to all the ladies of the Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy Panel. We look forward to May 19th.

MEN’S INTERCLUB COMPETITIO­NS

Congratula­tions to the Men’s Pierce Purcell Team who had a convincing win over Tramore in Tramore last week and now play Clonmel in the next round. Also very well done to our Fred Perry team who beat West Waterford on Thursday night on a scoreline of 3 1/2 to 1 ½. Well done to everyone involved.
