LONDON MARATHON

Sunday 23rd April was the date of the prestigious London Marathon. Angela O’Mahony, who travels regularly all over Ireland and the world even for races, secured a place in this coveted marathon! Congratulations Angela on an amazing run! Here are her thoughts about it: “An amazing experience in London. So different from any other marathon. The amount of people taking part and all the support is huge. The weather was mixed, it rained heavily before my start time, but eased off.

"Coming up to the half marathon point is Tower Bridge and the atmosphere is just electric.... so many people are there and the noise and emotion completely overwhelming. The sun came out around the Mall, and it’s after this that the finish line beckons. Going over the last timing mat before the finish at 40km is the last marker I saw. It's onto Buckingham Palace and round the corner to the finish line. My husband Don was lucky to get into one of the few stands just before the finish, and so was able to watch me crossing the line.”

Well done Angela! Your next marathon is just around the corner!

KAREN FENTON MEMORIAL 5K ROAD RACE

The annual Karen Fenton Memorial Run was hosted in Ballinora, Waterfall on April 23rd, 2023. This event was organised and hosted by the Fenton Family, in association with St Finbarr's AC, in memory of Karen Fenton, who passed away from ovarian cancer, on the 30th of April 2017, aged 43. Grange Fermoy athlete Frances Howard and her daughter, our juvenile athlete Jess Howard, both competed in the race on what was a beautiful sunny day. Frances said that this took the sting out of the hilly course, and of course post-race refreshments and music by Cork’s Red FM created a great atmosphere for the family-friendly event and it was well supported with over 300 entries. Well done to Frances and Jess!
