Impressive performance from U14s
UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIP
Our U14s kicked off their championship with an impressive performance last Wednesday when we overcame Comeragh Rangers in Knockanore. A blistering first quarter was the springboard for a strong performance, as early goals from Clodagh O’Keeffe, Robyn McLaughlin and Skye Gubbins set the scene as we raced into an early lead.
To their credit, Comeragh Rangers settled into the game and added on a number of well executed points. However the cushion of the early goals were enough to see us register our first win of the championship.
Our next game is next Monday away to Ballysaggart.
WATERFORD UNDER 14S
It was not to be for the Waterford U14B team who took on Tipperary in Mallow in the Johnny Hayes Munster final last Saturday. Leading by a point at half-time, they were edged out by a strong second half performance from Tipperary who recorded a 0-08 to 0-04 win. A feature of the game was the performance of Shamrocks’ player Katelyn McCarthy who recorded all four of Waterford’s points.
WATERFORD LGFA FÉILE BLITZES
Our Under 15s took part in the WLGFA Féile Blitz last Monday in Tallow and played some great football to win their division, getting the better of Ardmore/Grange in the final. Full report next week!
MUNSTER SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
The Waterford Seniors put in a strong performance against Kerry in the Munster Championship last Sunday in Fraher Field. However, they fell just short as goals in injury time in both halves were vital as the girls from the Kingdom came out on top on a final scoreline of Kerry 2-08 Waterford 0-08.
It was another milestone in our short history as Catherine Hynes became the first Shamrocks’ player to start a Waterford Senior championship game, as she lined out at corner forward. We also have Aobhla Motherway and Neesha Whelan as members of the panel, so even in a loss it was a another proud day for Shamrocks LGFA!
PRIMARY GAME
Congratulations to Shamrocks players Alyson Murphy and Sophie McCarthy who represented Waterford in the Primary Game at half-time in the Cork v Waterford Munster Senior Hurling Championship game in Páirc Ui Chaoimh last Sunday.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Congratulations to the girls from Knockanore NS who made their First Holy Communion last Saturday in Knockanore. The girls even took some time out from the celebrations to get in some football practice! Best wishes to the girls from Scoil Mhuire NS, Tallow who make their First Holy Communion next Saturday!
U16 CHAMPIONSHIP
Our U16s take on Erins Own in their semi-final of the U16 championship this Wednesday evening in Knockanore. The girls have been outstanding in their games so far, so all support would be appreciated in what promises to be a tough game!
