Game ends on level scores

-

A damp Saturday evening with a number players absent, we were back to the small ball last Saturday night, where we took on Dromina in the Division 1 Hurling League at home.

Play swiftly got underway with an early shot just going outside the posts, and on the other end a great save from Stevie. Darragh got the opening score of the game in the 3rd minute, with Dromina quickly following getting on the scoreboard. Brian O’Reilly, once again playing a stormer on the halfback line, quickly answered with another score on the board.

There was a slight lull in both play and the scoreboard due to injury but once we got underway again, a super pass from Jimmy in to fellow forward, Shaun saw him find the back of the net. The half time scoreboard saw us a point down on a 1-4 to 0-8 scoreline.

In the opening minutes of the second half we lost a man, but the team quickly regrouped to fill the gap. A free taken by Jamie, hit the post, with Cory gathering the rebound and getting our opening score in the second half. Shortly after, another Jamie free saw Noah gather the rebound and getting another point on the board. Our stalwarts added with a tally coming from Brian O’Reilly, Darragh and Jamie. A late free taken by Jamie successfully converted in the 32nd minute saw the closing scoreline of 1-13 to 0-16. Another super result and a testament to all involved.

The pressure was on from the start with key men missing, but from 1 to 15 we stood up to the task at hand. Alan Sheedy came on in the second half and made an impressionable difference in forward line. Once again our defence throughout the game was outstanding with notable performances from all. Paudie Fitz is playing solidly at corner back this season with some brilliant defending and our goalie, Stevie is putting in strong performances.

Team and scorers: Stevie Donegan, Paudie Fitzgerald, Eoin McHugh, Brian O’Regan, Eoin O’Regan, Barry Sheedy, Brian O’Reilly (0-2), Jake Buckley, Darragh Palmer (0-3), Cory Buckley (0-1), Jamie Sheedy (0-6,4F), Noah Butler (0-1), Shaun Cronin (1-0), Jimmy Burke, Conor McDonnell.
