Kilcrumper crew seal the deal for Fermoy U18 hurlers
Wednesday evening saw Fermoy U18s travel to Inniscarra in their attempt to make the U18 Premier 2 League Final. A good team effort and solid individual displays let Fermoy run out 3-17 to 0-21 victors.
The first fifteen minutes started well from Fermoy with a goal from Fionn Lardner and a wide variety of scores from Noah Sherwood, Brendan Daly and a long range effort from net-minder Shane Coughlan. However, it wasn’t all good for Fermoy as Inniscarra were far from quiet in their own forward line. Although ‘ Scarra kept the scoreboard ticking over, it was mostly frees with touch tight defending from Christopher Ring and John Lonergan standing out.
In the second quarter the game came to a level crossing after more Daly points and a superb Tiernan Mahon goal and he battled two ‘Scarra backs and kicked the ball into the bottom corner to see Fermoy have a comfortable position again. Brian McGrath was fielding multiple balls from Coughlan’s puck outs and feeding it to Lardner & Co who had no problem in taking their opportunities. Noah Sherwood latched onto a loose ball and split the posts to see the half time score read Fermoy 2-6, Inniscarra 0-12.
Half time saw positional changes and substitutions being made. Brendan Daly came out to midfield which really impacted the flow of the game, with Barry Keohane replacing wing back Cillian Bratchford. Barry and Niall Cloney then swapped.
Some fine ‘ Scarra scores saw Fermoy on the back foot. Until real leadership from Philip O’Flynn and Liam Cronin came to the fore. Liam fielding many a ball and setting up the likes of Darragh O’Brien, Tiernan Mahon and Lardner for fine scores. Cillian Fitzgerald also worked tirelessly and gave his man no chance of getting on the ball.
As the clock ran down heroics from Fionn Lardner who slotted 0-4 on the trot and a fine save from a ‘21 yard line free from Coughlan saw Fermoy run out comfy victors on a scoreline of 3-17 to 0-21.
Team: Shane Coughlan (0-2), Niall Cloney, John Lonergan, Christopher Ring, Jack Murray (1-0), Liam Cronin, Cillian Bratchford, Darragh O’Brien (0-2), Philip O’Flynn, Brendan Daly (0-3), Cillian Fitzgerald, Brian McGrath, Fionn Lardner (1-10), Tiernan Mahon (1-2), Noah Sherwood (0-1). WELL DONE
Well done to the Fermoy Minor camogie team who took on Bride Rovers in Fermoy on Tuesday night. All the hard work put in at training is paying off, keep it up girls. From everyone at Fermoy GAA, we would like to congratulate our former player, Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh, on his first League of Ireland goal, great achievement Joe. The first of many.
Our U12 camogie team faced Castlemartyr in the 2nd match of their league this evening and what a match it was. Brilliant performances from both sides made this a fast end to end match, neither team taking a step back until the final whistle was blown. Brilliant going from the girls, doing Fermoy proud.
