Teams work hard to go the distance at Fermoy Golf Club
Summer rules came into play last Friday, 28th April and it heralded another weekend of sometimes tense but exciting Interclub matches in Fermoy Golf Club. There was a full schedule including the men’s first medal competition of the year, kindly sponsored by long time sponsor Gerard Crowley (Crowley Electrical).
GOLF IRELAND INTERCLUB RESULTS MARY MCKENNY TEAM VERSUS KINSALE ON SATURDAY, 29TH APRIL
First up was the Mary McKenna team who fought hard in wet conditions to bring the match to a nail biting finish last Saturday evening. Suspense all the way, the team won four matches and sadly lost the fifth on the 19th. Nevertheless, a great achievement to come back from a 5-0 deficit to Kinsale and almost tie the match. Great golf and well done to all the team and their managers.
THE JUNIOR FOURSOMES TEAM VERSUS MALLOW ON SUNDAY, 30TH APRIL
With the sun finally shining down on Fermoy Golf Club last Sunday, the Junior Foursomes team secured a great win over Mallow in their Scotch foursomes competition. Congratulations to the team and their manager Pat Griffin. The team includes Áine O’Grady/Emma Comyn, Carol Griffin/Elaine Murphy, Martha Brennan/Claire Coughlan and sub Yvonne Stephenson. The next round will be against Muskerry and will be played at home. The date is yet to be decided.
PIERCE PURCELL TEAM VERSUS LEE VALLEY
Commiserations to the Pierce Purcell team who were beaten in Lee Valley last Sunday, April 30th. However the juveniles did secure a 2-0 victory over Kinsale at home in Fermoy on Saturday. Well done to the team and their manager Brendan Dunlea.
MINOR CUP VERSUS LEE VALLEY ON MONDAY, MAY 1ST
The Fermoy Minor Cup team headed down to Lee Valley last Monday to play the second leg of their competition against Lee Valley. The team got off to a good start in what would be a tightly contested match. An even score of 2-2 would bring them to the 20th hole in the fifth match but unfortunately the team were beaten by Lee Valley. Great appreciation for the team, caddies and manager Aileen Ryan.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL MIXED 28TH APRIL RESULTS
Eleven played in last Friday night’s social mixed. A very enjoyable evening with special thanks to Monica in catering for the complimentary coffee and scones for all the participants. First tee time is 5.16 Friday evenings, everyone is welcome. 1st Tom O’Keeffe, Helen Arnold and Mary Lomasney, score 29.5, 2nd Denis Crowley, Mary Wall and Mabel O’Keeffe, score 26.8.
