Busy week for Glanworth ladies!

U16

Our U16s faced Dromtariffe at home in round 2, where Dromtariffe took the lead early. But our girls got stuck in and they quickly turned it around and by half-time we were ahead by double scores.

In the second half Dromtariffe came out fighting and tried their best to turn the match around. Our girls continued the steady flow of scores and with some great passes and teamwork, we came out with a deserved win for our U16s, finishing up with scoreline of 6-11 to 4-10.

Panel: Ella Barrett, Ciara Burke, Nessa Bradley, Aoibhe Mackessy, Leah Burke, Meabh Quirke, Ava Nolan, Sarah O’Farrell (3-4), Katie Linehan (0-2), Erica Hanrahan, Emma Gibson (0-2), Ciara Moloney (0-1), Niamh Walsh, Orlaith O’Connell (3-2), Cameron McCann, Sorcha Madden and Sophia Newelle.

U14

Our U14s headed to Kiskeam to play Araglen Desmonds Buí. Even with the help of a few U12s, we still had no subs to relieve our girls, who ran their hearts out.

Araglen Desmonds Buí were very strong and the scoreline reflected this and they took the win. The U14s have had a very tough year as the division they are in is extremely strong.

Panel: Chloe O’Dwyer, Clodagh Bradley, Aoibhe Mackessy, Abbie Burke, Emilia Walsh, Emma Gibson (2-3), Shona O’Farrell, Ava Nolan, Leah Burke (1-0), Ava Hanrahan O’Sullivan, Erica Hanrahan, Sorche Madden, Ciara Linehan, Alisha Roche (1-0) and Molly O’Farrell.

U12

On Sunday morning our U12s travelled to Casltemagner to take on a very strong home side. The girls played very well with some great passes, but unfortunately they got the better of us and Castlemagner came out on top.

On a brighter note, our new jerseys arrived and our girls got to wear and show off one of our new sponsors Flynn’s Shop.

Panel: Jorja Curran, Abbie Browne, Emily Burke, Clodagh Bradley, Emma Casey, Ailbhe Kane, Sarah McSweeney, Kate O’Farrell, Saoirse Russell, Saoirse Coleman, Sophia Wilson (0-1), Aoife O’Leary, Ciara Linehan, Lauren O’Connor (0-1), Molly O’Farrell, Aine Bradley.

GLANFEST

Glanfest kicked off the bank holiday, we entered the 7s on the Saturday where we faced our neighbours in the final and lost by a point. All in all, the girls enjoyed the well organised day.

Our boys came out with a win, great to see the silverware heading to our clubhouse!

Glanworth LGFA organised a blitz for Mothers and Others on the Sunday, which drew a massive crowd, amazing support as our ladies took to the field to play their first match. The nerves and excitement were high and with Dave Twomey in charge we set to work, with 11-a-side and with a panel of 22, everyone got an equal run.

Everyone did their job extremely well, we amazed the crowd, as back in March when we started only a very small handful had ever actually played. With the help of Joe, Stephen, Padraig, Vincent, Austen, David and Vincent giving their time to us, we managed to pull off Sunday’s performance. The crowd was amazing and with the craic and banter to the ref, with ref Dave Twomey explaining he had red and yellow cards for all if we wanted, it got the match off to a great start and laugh to break up the nerves! But thankfully we listened to his advice that he brought cards for all of us and his red card wasn’t for Valentines. All in all great craic and well done to Glanworth GAA on an amazing festival from start to finish.

U21

Finally, our U21s played probably their last match of the season, on bank holiday Monday when we played Dromtariffe at home with just the 14 players. The girls went head to head with them all the way to the end. Dromtarriffe were lucky to have a few subs to relieve their girls, our girls powered through and played till the last second, but lost out by just 2 points at full time.

All our U16 players who play up were a huge addition to this panel with a lot of scores coming from Sarah O’Farrell and Ella Barrett pulled off some amazing saves in goals, giving her player of the match hands down. A great game of football was played, even though our girls deserved the win the score did not reflect this.

Panel: Ella Barrett, Aishling Dennehy, Cliodhna Browne (0-1), Meadhdh Desmond, Ciara Burke, Ella May Fahy, Isabelle Kennerley, Aoife Walsh, Sarah O’Farrell (0-7), Brid Cotter (0-2), Kayleigh Barry (0-1), Caroline Leamy, Holly Quirke (0-6), Amy Fagan (c).

We would like to wish Kayleigh Barry and Sarah O’Farrell a speedy recovery. This is the first year we entered an U21 team to the North Cork League and without doubt, we are extremely proud of the girls’ performance from start to finish.

NEW JERSEYS

U12s, 7s, U21 and Mothers and Others wore our 3 new set of Juniors jerseys over the weekend showing off another one of our sponsors, Desmond Ag Services and Flynn’s Shop. U16s are left to tog out with their set, with O’Donnell’s also on board as our sponsor. We would like to invite all to a night out to celebrate and thank all our three sponsors on Saturday, May 13th at 9pm in O’Donnell’s Bar.
