Council's public lighting programme 'beset with difficulties'
Cork County Council are continuing to work on the public lighting across the county, albeit the project has been 'beset with difficulties'. In a report provided by Padraig Barrett for Cork County Council at Monday's Southern Committee meeting, he noted how they had faced difficulties with the delivery of lanterns for retrofitting, as well as that contract negotiations took place in an era of hyper inflation, and that the contractor had suffered a bereavement.
Nevertheless, the council are continuing to work through the districts. Retrofitting in the Fermoy district is still scheduled to be finished by the end of October, while in the Cobh district which includes Watergrasshill, Knockraha, Whitechurch, Glanmire and Carraig na bhFear, works should be finished by the end of August. In East Cork, the finish date is given as mid-October.
Mr Barrett said that the council had been successful in getting lights that give the 'warmest' light, rather than bright white lights, while still achieving their energy saving targets.
WATERGRASSHILL WORKS
Elsewhere in the report, the council reported that in Bishops Island in Watergrasshill they are awaiting a design for the installation of six new lights. Elsewhere in the village, two new lights have been installed at the southern exit of the village towards Cork city.
In Lisgoold, eight new lights have been installed on the new footpath between the village and the GAA pitch, and in Midleton, four new lights and two others have been retrofitted to improve lighting on the laneway and outside cottages at The Park.
