Coláiste Fionnchua on tour
As the end of the ’22-’23 academic year approaches, it’s time to look back on the past year and acknowledge the achievements and great work done by the different year groups over the course of the
school year.
While 3rd Year students toured Dublin, 1st, 5th and 6th Year students headed to Emerald Park in Co Meath. The atmosphere was electric with excitement around the theme park and students wandered in different directions trying out the huge variety of rides available.
Those looking for the adrenaline rush loved ‘The Rotator’ and ‘ Cu Culainn Coaster’ rides, while others got a soaking on the ‘The Viking Voyage’ ride but luckily spare clothes were packed in anticipation. While in Emerald Park, students took the opportunity to tour the zoo, where they also learned about the various conservation projects the park is currently involved in. Students also attended a free-flying raptor showing.
While it might have been an early start and a late finish, this was a brilliant day out with plenty for everyone to do. It was a great bonding experience for our first years, while helped our senior cycle students to relax before their final exams.
While some students headed to Leinster, 2nd Year students kept it local and travelled to Cork! First stop was Fitzgerald Park, where they spent some time relaxing before heading across the ‘Shakey Bridge’ to Cork City Gaol, which allowed students to see what 19th and early 20th century life was like inside the walls of the prison. While Countess Markievicz might have described Cork City Gaol as ‘the most comfortable jail’ she had ever been in, a guided tour brought our students some of the crimes people were imprisoned for and the conditions they endured both in the city and while in prison.
From here, we walked along the Mardyke to the Mardyke Entertainment Complex, where students tried their hand at bowling before hitting the karaoke booths with gusto! While no recording contracts might have been signed that day, the students had tremendous fun going through the hits, past and present.
The day ended in Mahon Point Retail Park where students indulged in some fast food and retail therapy!
