Perfect conditions for Fermoy GAA Golf Classic

- JOHN AHERN

Very serious, serious, not so serious and occasional golfers were in Fermoy Golf Club last Friday for a golf classic in aid of Fermoy GAA. The golf classic model remains a favourite of GAA clubs around the country and thanks to 'a big push', the event realised a significant profit.

The weather leading up to the big day wasn't ideal, however, much to the relief of organisers and participants, last Friday was a most pleasant day, that improved as afternoon gave way to evening.

MOST ENJOYABLE DAY OUT

Running a GAA club is a demanding business for both mentors and players, with few enough occasions to unwind and relax. The golf classic 'righted' this situation as golfers of varying abilities met and mingled in a good humoured and relaxed atmosphere.

The occasion was also an opportunity to reflect on the fantastic amenity that is Fermoy Golf Club. The fairways and greens looked incredible and one can only marvel at the time and effort required to keep the course in such condition.

WELL LOOKED AFTER

There's nothing like a round of golf to work up an appetite and catering staff at Fermoy Golf Club looked after golf classic participants really well. The beautiful weather allowed for outdoor dining, which was another plus.

Alan O'Connor and Brian O'Sullivan were part of a very hard working organising committee, who ensured this fundraiser was a resounding success. The good news for the lads and their colleagues is that the classic generated significant monies, which will be used in the club's ongoing developement.
