Local schools bound for Aviva in FAI Primary finals
Two local primary schools are headed to the Aviva at the end of May, ready to compete in the finals of the FAI’s Primary School 5s competition. The girls from Kilbehenny NS represented Limerick in a decisive 3-1 victory over Cloughjordan to cinch their spot in the finals, while the boys in Ballylooby NS secured their spot with a 4-1 victory over County Clare’s Scoil na Mainistreach.
On the Kilbehenny panel are pupils Ciara Maher, Saoirse Clifford, Lucy Geary, Roisín Dooley, Meabh Kearney, Aoife Noonan, Aoife Casey, Lucy Bailey, Myah Cleary, Ella Kelly and Bree Odgers. Along with their coaches, Kilbehenny staff Olive Kenneally, Edel Cunningham and Mark O’Connell, the girls are ready for road.
Principal Mark O’Connell spoke with The Avondhu, to say how proud the school are of the team’s achievement, and they are looking forward to seeing all the support they’ll get in the Aviva, as well as thanking those that have championed the Kilbehenny girls so far.
Meanwhile, on the Ballylooby panel are DJ Brunnick, Noah McCarthy, Darragh Quinlan, Evan Lonergan, Luke O’Donnell, Oisin Savage, Jack Galvin and Liam Klonowski.
Both teams will compete in their respective finals in the Aviva Stadium on 31st May.
The Kilbehenny girls will be looking forward to facing Ardnagrath NS from Meath in the first round, Castleblakeney NS, Galway in round 2, and Scoil Colmcille of Kerrykeel, Donegal in the final round. Meanwhile, Ballylooby will be facing off against St Eunans of Raphoe, Donegal, St Colman's NS, Offaly and Knocknacarra NS from Galway
On the day, teams will get the full experience including official squad photography and an opening ceremony, pitch-side warm-ups, and a tunnel assembly. Best of luck!
