Winning ways continue for Galtee Gaels ladies
U16 LEAGUE A CUP FINAL WINNERS
Congratulations to our U16 girls who won the U16 League A Cup Final on Monday evening in Fedamore v Feohanagh/Castlemahon. This is the first time that this Cup has been won by Galtee Gaels LGFA.
This was a great final with a great game of football on display from both teams. Both teams were evenly matched. Gaels started off well, raising the green flag in their first attack, which was followed by a point a few minutes later. Feohanagh/ Castlemahon settled into the game and drew level 1-1 apiece after 10 minutes. Feohanagh/Castlemahon got the next few scores, leading 2-4 to 1-1. Gaels picked off a couple of great scores before the interval and going into half time it was Gaels 2-2 Feohanagh/Castlemahon 2-4.
Gaels made a couple of positional changes during the break, the game was level again within 5 minutes of the restart. Feohanagh/ Castlemahon upped the game and picked off the next few scores. Gaels’ midfield and defence were under pressure but stood the test and coped well with everything Feohanagh/Castlemahon threw at them.
Going into the last quarter it was all square 3-7 apiece. Gaels pushed on, scoring 1-1 without reply and won on a scoreline of 4-8 to 3-7. A great team performance by all the girls, with some having played a match earlier in the day. Kate O’Donnell (captain) accepted the cup on the night.
Thanks to all the management team involved with the girls for all their time and the work they put in. Thanks to all the parents and supporters for being there on the night. This is the first time that Galtee Gaels LGFA has won the U16 League A Cup. It’s a great achievement.
