Busy week for the club

-

Our Intermediate hurlers were out last week and unfortunately we came up short against Ballyhea last Sunday on the scoreline of 0-16 Ballyhea 1-17.

Ballyhea lead for the entire game as Kildorrery came close on a number of occasions but could not bridge the gap. Ballyhea with the aid of a strong breeze got two early points before Luke Keating pointed a free after 3 minutes.

After 20 minutes Ballyhea lead on the scoreline of 8 points to 4 before Kildorrery tacked on a few points to leave just two points between the teams. With a few minutes to half time Ballyhea got through for a goal and 2 points with a point for Kildorrery leaving the score 1-11 to 0-9.

Ballyhea had a player sent off early in the second half for a reckless pull and with the breeze behind them Kildorrery were expected to take control of the game. But as often happens the 14 players lifted their game and Kildorrery, although staying in touch, never closed the gap and Ballyhea won on the scoreline of 1-17 0-16.

Kildorrery started the game minus some players through injury and unavailability but it was encouraging to see other players come in to get game time and to try to win a place on the team.

We had a number of young players starting, two more came on as subs and a few more on the bench so hopefully we will have a fine panel when the championship comes around.

Team: Ian Butler, Jack McNamara, Darren McNamara, Conor Kent, Shane Fitzgerald, James Keating (8pts 6F), PJ Keating, Will Fouhy, David Hunter, James O’Sullivan, Luke Keating (4pts 1F), Shane O’Neill (0-1), Cathal Harrington (0-3), John O’Connor, Tiernan Condon. Subs: Kieran Hurley for Shane O’Neill (inj), Sean Watson for John O’Connor (inj).

A Junior Hurling league fixture v Liscarroll Churchtown Gaels was held in Kildorrery on Monday night where we lost on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-13. This certainly was a game of two halves and we seemed to have the better of the opposition in the first half but succumbed to their dominance in the second half. Hard luck to the boys as there were some good passages of play from our lads it has to be said.
