The Avondhu

U14 boys in cup final on Friday

-

Our mighty U14 boys have made it all the way the WW/EC Cup final, due to be played at Fraser Leonard Park in Tallow on Friday, 19th May.

The boys have had a great cup run this season, and they will square off against rivals Clashmore Ramblers for the silverware. The very best of luck boys, the whole village is behind you!

GREAT EFFORT FROM OUR U10S GIRLS

Kilworth U10 girls played Avondale

FC in Ballinlough on Saturday morning in perfect conditions. With such a warm start to the day, it was decided to split the game into 3 x 15 minute sessions for water breaks.

In the first third, we started slowly, giving away some easy ball, and Avondale took advantage going into a 2-0 lead. By the second third, we were much more fluid and pulled two goals back, 2-2 going into the final third.

Some fancy footwork up front in the forwards got us a third goal to go into the lead with 10 minutes remaining. Avondale broke our defence to draw 3-3. With only one minute remaining, Avondale counter attacked and sneaked in goal to win in 4-3. While the girls were disappointed, they played some really great football and the coaches were extremely happy with all of the performances.

However, all was not lost on the day, as the girls got to meet Ireland’s Fittest Family, and Munster and Ireland Rugby hero, Donnacha O’Callaghan who was very kind to chat and even had time for a quick photo.

Team: Clodagh McCrae, Azia Byrne, Ria Pierce, Heidi O’Donoghue, Áine Cooney, Sophie O’Halloran, Zoe O’Connor.

Thanks to our coaches Graham and Conor.

GRACE REFS FIRST EVER CUP FINAL

Kudos to our own Kilworth Senior Ladies Grace Fanning who refereed her first cup final when she officiated in the Cork Women’s Soccer U12 Plate Cup between Ringmahon Rangers AFC and Douglas Hall AFC. Ringmahon lifted the cup after a highly competitive match 1-0 at the MTU. Well done Grace, you’ve done the village and the club proud!

U11 Avondale Utd 0 Kilworth Celtic 2

A very entertaining game was played in Beaumount Park on Sunday afternoon, with Kilworth Celtic in action against a very strong Cork Schoolboys League team, Avondale Utd. Lovely sunny conditions at kick-off were good for fast attractive football.

Avondale started the game fast and within 3 minutes had a strike on goal what was superbly tipped over by Fionn Twomey. Unfortunately, this was the final act for Fionn who had to replace Evan Aherne in goals for the remainder of the game. The game was very broken at times with Avondale having most of the possession but the ever-reliable Kilworth defence holding strong led by Frank O’Brien, with JJ Slattery and Jamie Brosnan either side supporting.

15 minutes into the first half a lovely through ball from David Sisk put Kal O’Meara in on goal, 1-0. As the first half stretched on, the game became a little more open and Avondale had a number of good efforts on goal, but all were well saved by Evan.

With 3 minutes to go in the first half, lovely passing combination from Zack Long and David Sisk allowed the ball to break to Fergus McCallum who, identical to the first goal, slotted it home - 2-0.

Hugo Sarsfield came on and a lovely passing move between Rian Crumlish, Kai O’Meara and Hugo nearly led to a third goal. Avondale were chasing the game and only for some great goalkeeping from Evan Aherne and a strong defensive performance from our backline kept the clean sheet intact.

The game finished in 2-0 victory for Kilworth. It was a fantastic advertisement for schoolboys’ soccer in Cork. Thank you to Avondale Utd for hosting us this morning. We look forward to meeting them again in the near future.

Thank you to the large crowd in attendance.

U10S - FANTASTIC TRAINING

Our boys U10s have already started their pre-season training before they become U11s! They held an intense yet very enjoyable training session at Sheila Flynn Park, where some of the girls joined in for good measure.

Keep up the great work boys and girls, you’re improving with every session!
