Junior ladies excel under pressure

-

Our junior ladies played Cloyne in County League at home in Glanworth, our girls were put under pressure from the get-go as we only had a panel of 13 facing a panel of 19 from Cloyne.

The first 5 minutes saw Christine Quirke taking the lead with a goal quickly followed by Megan Blackburne adding another goal to the score sheet. Caroline Leamy arrived at 14 minutes in, and she rolled her sleeves up and got to work, the next 2 points came from Megan, with Christine Quirke piping up with another goal to follow and Holly popped the next 2 points over the bar, heading into half time leading 3-4 to 0-3.

Looking good for second half and hoping the speed of the game wouldn’t tire our 14 girls as we had no subs, but we had no need to worry even though Cloyne got a steady point every 5 minutes or so. Holly Quirke 4 minutes in taking her point from a free, Christine followed with another point and just be sure Holly Quirke added another goal finishing off with point from Megan Blackburne and leaving a winning score of 4-7 to 0-9 at full time.

A very well deserved result as the girls worked very well and fought hard to keep the pace and speed of this game even though Cloyne were lucky to have subs to put new legs on the field this didn’t faze our players in any way. Huge credit to Aisling Desmond staying to the end. Next up is Carrigtwohill in the County League.

Sophia added another point from a free, and at half time we were up 2-3 to 0-0. Facing into the wind in the second half Sophia started with a point and Sarah McSweeney added 2 amazing goals from outfield. Finishing up with 5-5 to 0-3.

U14

The U14s had the North Cork C final on Sunday evening at home v Araglen Desmond’s Bui, the girls fought as hard as they could against a very strong Araglen Desmonds Bui. Nearly 22 minutes in Alisha Roche got our first score with a point, Emma Gibson burst through for a goal, at half time we were down 4-8 to 1-1. In fairness to our players they came out at half time and fought hard right to the end. Abbie O’Dwyer took the first point starting the 2nd half, Erica burst through with another point and finishing up with a point from Dalicia Kisambu, finishing up with 5-10 to 1-04.
