Mixed results for our juniors

DIVISION ONE HURLING LEAGUE Harbour Rovers 1-15 Ballyhooly 0-21 Harbour Rovers 0-17 Ballyhea 1-17

Our junior hurlers were in action twice last week. I wasn’t at the Ballyhea match so I don’t have a report on this game from last Sunday. The previous Thursday in Ballyhooly they finished the stronger to collect the points.

We started the game well and had points from Peter and Stevie Condon in the first two minutes. Ballyhooly got a point but we responded with points from Stevie and Podge to go three clear. Ballyhooly began to settle and got four points in a row in the next five minutes. The game swung our way and we hit back with four in a row ourselves with a great point from Thomas Condon and three from Stevie. The momentum swung once again for the remainder of the half as they outscored us four points to one, with ours coming from Stevie, to have tied at nine apiece at the break.

They had the strength of the wind for the second half so we knew we faced a battle to win this. They started on the front foot though, getting three points in the first three mins. Podge Hannon struck a lovely point in reply but they kept coming with two more points to open up a four point lead on the 36th minute. Our boys showed their character here and dug in. Stevie got two points to half the deficit by the fortieth minute.

They got a free a minute later but the tide shifted when from our next attack the ball went loose in the box and Scotty Sheehan was the fastest to react and he pulled on it into the back of the net to level it up once again. We went ahead when Stevie struck a beauty of a sideline but they responded with two points of their own to go one up with ten to play.

We levelled it up with six to play put they responded from the next attack with a point. They went three ahead with two quick points going into injury time. Stevie did get a free but they would finish the scoring with one last point to leave the gap at three at the final whistle.

A disappointing result but still some positives to take from it. The application of everyone who played was top notch and I’m sure positives results are just around the corner. Keep up the hard work lads, things will turn.
