Doneraile man remains critical after Vietnam accident
Damien Horgan, a Doneraile man who was injured in a motorbike accident in Vietnam at the end of April, remains in an induced coma in the ICU in Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
Injured on 26th April, Damian contracted pneumonia and his family have subsequently needed to increase the target amount on the GoFundMe fundraiser that they are running. As of Wednesday this week, the family have raised a total of €97,170 of a target of €150,000.
Damien’s sister Fiona confirmed to TheAvondhu that her brother is still 100% dependent on the ECMO machine, and continues to use a ventilator, and continues to be ‘very, very critical’.
John Horgan this week made a public update on his brother’s condition, saying that his brothers-in-law Patrick and Adrian were now in the country, and having met with Damien’s doctor Dr Tam, confirmed that there was a ‘very small improvement’ on his reliance of the ventilator” to about 90%.
“This may seem insignificant but for us we cling to any positive improvement”, said John.
“Damien however is still 100% reliant on the ECMO machine and is back on dialysis due to the damage caused to his kidneys.”
“Seeing him in the hospital so vulnerable and so reliant on various machines was very difficult to accept. I just spent my time speaking to him and reassuring him that whatever happens we will be beside him every day and to focus on getting better.”
