INJURED JOCKEYS FUND BENEFITS FROM CONNA RACE NIGHT
The horse racing fraternity turned out in force last Saturday to support a race night in aid of the Cork & Waterford Injured Jockeys Fund.
Popular meeting place, The Winner's Enclosure Bar, hosted the event that had another local organisation, Boulta Schooling Gallops, as a main sponsor.
VERY IMPORTANT FUND
One of the world's most exciting professions, horse riding for a living, can also be very dangerous - be it a lesser known point-to-point course or one of the country's best known tracks, danger lies around every bend. Very few jockeys go through their careers without sustaining a serious injury and when you are on the flat of your back, bills still need to be paid and repayments made.
This is where a well run injured jockeys fund comes in. One of the region's longest established funds is the 'Cork & Waterford Injured Jockeys Fund', which has been a lifeline for so many riders over the years. Like all funds, it needs to be replenished and this is what last Saturday night in Conna was all about.
VERY SUCCESSFUL
Understanding the importance of the fund, those in attendance gave generously - for this, organisers are most grateful. The race night format is tried and tested and there was plenty of recorded 'racing' to keep patrons entertained.
The auction races proved very lucrative, again, a sincere ' thanks' to those who were the highest bidders on the night.
YOU HOPE YOU WON'T NEED IT
The nature of any 'emergency fund' is you hope you won't need it, however, it's a comfort for individuals and their families, knowing it's there. Cork & Waterford Injured Jockeys Fund is overseen to very stringent levels and this gives the public a lot of confidence in its operation.
In conclusion, thanks to everyone who subscribed or contributed in any way last Saturday night.
